Did anyone watch 'Beastly Business' on BBC2 last night? It was about

animal rights extremists and the tactics they use. It showed loads of

images of animal cruelty; I had to cover my eyes and I was nearly

crying. I did cry when they mentioned the death of Jill Phipps-what a

loss.

I also watched the BBC2 program last night. I found it very disturbing how

people try to justify things like sending letter bombs and attacking cars in

the name of animal rights. Protesting is one thing but violence against

others or property is another.

Mmmm... I understand your point of view - the topic of direct action is a

complex one

Many AR people believe in direct action and many do not, saying it

contradicts the message of peace and non - cruelty we are trying to achieve

As I understand it, the ALF choose targets very carefully and it is ALWAYS

property, not people

Unlike the people who work in the labs, and the huntsmen, and the furriers,

and the farmers and the breeders for vivisection and the...well you get my

drift....who make a living every day out of suffering and torment and death

I don't think we should ever be too quick to judge any actions in the name

of animal rights - clearly these people feel very angry and desperate about

what they see

And let's not forget - AR people can end up in hospital or even dead because

of the actions from people on the other side - the latest hunt sab casualty

is lying in hospital in intensive care as we speak because a member of the

hunt thought it would be funny to drive his Land Rover over him

It works both ways

I see far more atrocities and suffering caused by fighting in the name of

religion, land ownership etc. These people deliberately set out to injure

each other and we have heads of states sitting round a table essentially

sanctioning killing and maiming of people, including young children

To my knowledge there has only been one death attributed to the fight for

animal rights (not including actual AR people fighting the cause where the

figure is higher), some may say one death too many - I say that, given the

high emotions surrounding the topic, and the millions of deaths of animals

EVERY YEAR, that's a pretty good track record

At the end of the day it takes some sick pervert to inflict pain or

suffering on an animal and as you may well all be aware the RSPCA is

commissioning a study into the link between people who begin with animal

abuse and move onto people.

I am mortified if I accidentally knock my dog or step on his foot and he

yelps (doesn't happen very often!) - can you imagine the type of person it

would take to pick up a beagle puppy (we all know how beautiful they are)

who is cowering at the back of his barren shit ridden kennel. He starts

urinating involuntarily when they pick him up because he is so scared, they

take him to a lab, strap him into a contraption or onto a table on his back

and force feeding him chemicals or cigarette smoke or god knows what else

until he passes out?

And then taking this delicate, limp, lifeless body back to his barren shit

ridden kennel where he then endures vomiting, diahrrea, listlessness, and

God knows what else, and his sorry little life ends with the jab of a needle

or through the effects of what he has been given - I don't want to upset

anyone here but this is the reality

What type of sicko can do this?

I don't think we should judge those types who use direct action too harshly

I can only imagine that they feel very desperate about the plight of these

animals

Well people, I also totally understand how frustration leads people to violence against animal abusers. I have been very close to it myself. It is not the method I would chose now in my safe middleclass bullshit lifestyle, but I have a lot more respect respect for these people than any asshole burger eating , bovine tit sucking, motherfucker prick who suffers at the end of their wrath!!!

p.s. www.ekokidz.com is coming soon!!

I can understand the anger that leads to violent actions though it is not my way - the abuse suffered by animals is horrendous. I didn't see the program in question but I know TV can be very 'geared' to promote a certain view. There was a program on about 4 years ago on Channel 4 which was actually on the side of the ALF and let them have their say - the media often reports very innaccurately on this issue. It had Keith Mann on speaking about his 14 year (I think) sentence. He didn't harm anyone - rapists get a lot less.

had a look at ekokidz - what ARE those things? Slightly hypnotic effect there!
