Guest guest
Hi everyone, I saw the Money Programme, and I managed to watch it all ( I cried through it though). I think they did cover it well, but I wished they could of mentioned about testing on rats etc. does not give you cures as they are so different from humans. When the Managing Director was babbling on how it is essential for human lives and cures for illnesses I felt VERY VERY angry. Does that guy have any remorse!!?? Sorry I am getting very emotional. But I did feel they ended on a great note with it's all about 'Money! Money! Money which' is soooo true. I also have been watching the 'Superhuman' programme on Sundays. It is fascinating, and found the guy with the arm fairly digusting. It does seem rather scarey that the future of medical science is breeding animals for their organs that is a frightening thought. But being in the computer industry I have done some study on visualisation technologies which one of my lecturers is involved in, to replace 'traditional' methods, so there is hope yet!! Guest guest
Yeah Karen, I know what you mean - although I think the 'scientific fraudulence' message is slowly getting through - when I do my car boot sales people often say, 'but they don't work, do they?' which is very encouraging I was very pissed off about the lack of time given to this area and Dawn Parkes, the AR lady on there, only got a split second to say 'when we stop using animals in human science we might start getting some cures' Unfortunately and predictably as you say Karen, the bigger picture is money, and if and when the lid on the secrecy is blown wide open the public reaction of disgust will, in my opinion, be so widespread they will be left with no option but to stop using animals It really is quite incomprehensible how the industries involved have managed to defend it for so long - it's a highly secretive business though - when you look at documentation and results of reports from animal tests when applying to human drugs the word 'INCONCLUSIVE' appears an unbelievable amount of times. The only other comments I've seen is 'causes birth defects in mice' - and yet the drugs go on the market anyway, in spite of what animal tests tell the 'scientists' Things are looking up though - the AR movement in the States is getting very strong which is what we desperately need - it's such a big place that the cause needs to be grounded very firmly there in order that, if companies close down here and flee, predictably, to the States, there is still NO respite for them until they are forced to cease trading, or the use of animals in their line of work Did anyone read the expose on HLS in the Daily Express a few weeks ago? - thousands of documents were leaked or 'obtained' - not sure which! concerning the gruesome area of xenotransplantation and the animal tests involved HLS are now the subject of a FOURTH Home Office investigation into animal cruelty and breaking the law when it comes to using animals in experiments After the last investigation in '97 following the dreadful footage shown by the Countryside Undercover documentary, HLS had 16 new conditions imposed on them by the Home Office, which this latest expose has shown, have NOT been kept They have also breached or ignored the principles of the Good Laborotory Practice no less than 520 times Their share price has now gone from the £3.60 in the early days of the campaign to 4.5 PENCE!! The customer at the centre of this latest scandal, Imutran, who were commissioning the xenotransplantation 'studies' have now announced that they are closing down and moving to the US to join forces with a company who have 'new, exciting methods of research' (not the exact words) - whether this still involves animals or not, I'm not sure If you're not already involved with the campaign I would URGE you to PLEASE get involved and show your support, however much, whether it be raising money, doing a monthly standing order, going to the demos, writing letters to the Home Office and/or pharmaceutical companies - WHATEVER!! HLS WILL CLOSE DOWN - IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME - WE WANT IT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER!! When it closes it will be an enormous victory for the AR movement - we're showing the 'powers that be' that we won't take any more shit and we don't want to live in a world that accepts these barbaric practices so we're gonna change them! The campaign number, for anyone who doesn't have it, is 0121 632 6460 or log onto www.shac.net for further info - THE NEXT NATIONAL DEMO IS ON SATURDAY 4TH NOVEMBER - PLEASE TRY AND MAKE IT IF YOU CAN You'll all be pleased to hear that I'm putting my soap box back in the cupboard now!! Until next time folks! FTA Katy ps. if anyone reasonably local to me would like to help with a SmithKline Beecham demo one weekend (I don't mind travelling) please let me know - basically would involve standing outside a Boots store or other supermarket with placards and leaflets urging people to boycott them as they are HLS's biggest customer > " Karen Jones " <KazzaJelly >vegan-network ><vegan-network > > The Money Programme >Thu, 26 Oct 2000 12:11:29 +0100 > >Hi everyone, > >I saw the Money Programme, and I managed to watch it all ( I cried through >it though).
