Guest guest
I am seeking any stories of workplace harassment and discrimination, where this has been in connection with the victim's veganism/animal rights views. This is something which happened to me several years ago, but justice was never done. I have made contact with some US vegans, including one who is suing his former employers. I am hoping to collect and self-publish a short book of people's personal stories of this problem. I want to raise awareness of the existence of this form of discrimination. I am happy to include a variety of activists, not only vegan/AR people, to show how common this problem is for people with strong beliefs. If anyone on this list has experienced this, and may be interested in putting their story down on paper, please email me. Guest guest
I'd be really interested to read your book when its finished. I've tried to access the Vegan Society website at work but it was blocked and I got logged for trying to access an 'illegal' site. Fair enough that they block some sites like porn and other things they deem inappropriate, but the Vegan Society?! Its ridiculous. I would've complained but we're not really supposed to be on the internet in the first place. Having said that I got told off for emailing last week so I'd better go!... vegan-network , " Lesley Dove " <100706.3632@c...> wrote: > > I am seeking any stories of workplace harassment and discrimination, > where this has been in connection with the victim's veganism/animal > rights views. > This is something which happened to me several years ago, but justice > was never done. Guest guest
Hayley, It is just going to be most likely self-published and basically a collection of people's personal stories in their own words. I will only be able to take the credit for putting my own personal story on paper. I'm no clever writer but I felt these experiences needed to be told. It has been painful for me to reopen old wounds on this and writing it meant reliving some of the misery I suffered when the workplace bullying was happening. I am still looking for more people willing to work with me on this, not only vegans but any other people who have suffered beliefs-based discrimination in work or place of study. I have asked the Vegan Society about the possibility of them covering in their magazine the general problem of anti-vegan discrimination, I could write about a few examples, although many of them would be American, and there are other forms of anti-vegan discrimination, against vegan families in particular by certain authorities and government bodies. I would like to ask a vegan solicitor or barrister to comment on the legal situation on such discrimination. I find they don't reply to my ideas ever since Richard Farhall has gone, now he was very approachable and often open to many of my ideas. I have sent them another idea for an article on vegans and slimming diets, which I would like to be involved in, and I know of a few other people who might be approachable to be interviewed for it. What we really need is a few test cases against anti-vegan discrimination in this country, that is if a legal expert can find a law which might cover it. It seems to me that US vegans are better at suing than we Brits. Many vegans seem to let themselves be walked all over, maybe due to fear of the consequences of rocking the boat, or just plain pessimism. I want this collection of stories to inspire and empower vegans especially to stand up for themselves in these situations.
