Guest guest
I have met a couple of vegans who said that they would eat meat if animals lived their natural lives and humans caught and killed them naturally (or if they were in a life or death situation and an animal was the only 'food'). I think they based this on the fact that they believed humans were meant to eat meat. I was wondering how many others of you felt this way too? Each to their own, but personally I could never eat meat, whatever the circumstances. To me animals (and all of nature) are beautiful creations and I just couldn't bring myself to destroy them. I couldn't look into their pleading eyes, saying please don't hurt me, and then kill them. I just don't view animals as food. Plus, from an ethical viewpoint, I don't see how humans can decide that they are superior to another animal (why is intelligence always used to measure superiority?) and therefore what gives them the right to make the choice that their life is more important? What does everyone else think? Hayley __________________________ Get eKno! Lonely Planet's communication service for travellers. Low cost international calls, voicemail and innovative e-services! Guest guest
Well, if it were life or death situation then yes I would kill and eat another annimal...I think that I would find it hard and I most definatly would`nt find it at all pleasent but the fact remains that if I did`nt kill that annimal for my family and myself to eat then I would be watching my children and husband die our natueral instinct is to survive as is any animals..I would do this to survive. I believe that mass animal farming is grotesque and it still goes on as man is greedy and selfish..I dont think to kill another " thing " be that human or animal for survival is a greedy thing it`s just survival. Guest guest
....I must add that I would, of course, try and sustain a healthy diet on vegetables before I did do anything like kill another animal. Guest guest
What I always tell people is that I don't think it is wrong to eat meat, it's just the way we do it that sucks. No living being should be treated like we treat animals. Every day we see excellent examples of this. I do believe that if I were a native American 300 or so years ago, I would eat meat because they worshiped the animal, respected its spirit and used every little part. The fact is we use and abuse every other species on the planet to our 'benefit.' Our priorities are totally in the wrong places. Being vegan is the answer to so many of the worlds problems, mainly world hunger. You all know the details. Glad to be a part of this group, Later, Flavor " dave watson " <mrbig wrote: >Well, if it were life or death situation then yes I would kill and eat >another annimal...I think that I would find it hard and I most definatly >would`nt find it at all pleasent but the fact remains that if I did`nt kill >that annimal for my family and myself to eat then I would be watching my >children and husband die our natueral instinct is to survive as is any >animals..I would do this to survive. >I believe that mass animal farming is grotesque and it still goes on as man >is greedy and selfish..I dont think to kill another " thing " be that human or >animal for survival is a greedy thing it`s just survival. > >Lucy W. > > >- >Hayley <blue143 ><vegan-network > >Friday, December 08, 2000 4:53 PM > would you eat meat if... > > >> I have met a couple of vegans who said that they would eat meat if animals >> lived their natural lives and humans caught and killed them naturally (or >if >> they were in a life or death situation and an animal was the only 'food'). >I >> think they based this on the fact that they believed humans were meant to >eat >> meat. Guest guest
Made me think.. Science is forcing us to make ever finer judgements about how we approach our lives. It's not just about eating or not eating meat anymore. If you were prepared to eat meat to survive, would you then accept an organ from an animal? If you were, for example, a diabetic, would you accept animal derived insulin to improve the quality/length of your life? I think I probably would. To me eating animals is simply wrong. But if I were in a position where I could only survive by killing and eating an animal then I would. I would probably take the same approach if I were ill. Mmm.. just some random thoughts
Guest guest
No to both - I try and live my life along the guidelines of 'as nature intended' - I don't believe that either of those points fit into that criteria although it is very difficult to say categorically what decisions one would make if there were absolutely no other option - I do believe that there are alternatives though to the examples you have given > " Raymond Turner " <Raymond.Turner >vegan-network >vegan-network > Re: would you eat meat if... >Mon, 11 Dec 2000 11:52:53 -0000 > >Made me think.. > >Science is forcing us to make ever finer judgements >about how we approach our lives.
