Guest guest
well, happy turkey free time folks ... let's have a moment of silence for the little squawkers before tucking in to our lynda mccartney. i missed the space pizza feature as i dont have a tv but from a marketing angle alone, it sounds like a runner. i dont know about pizza hut and plastic soya cheese though, i never quite considered what they did as food in the first place. although i guess it might be a step in the right direction ... like mcdonalds veggie burger [ :-( ] ... junk food is junk food even if the mass market buuy it. i have to admit, god pizzas are the one thing that i will make an exception and eat out for in restaurants where they cook meat. although i always make an effort to go when it is quiet and so as meat free as possible. the pizza express chain is the one chain i would go to. they do a good vegetarian one called veneziana [ 50 p to save venice charity ] which if you get it with no cheese and extra spinach is great. lashing of olive oil to make up. it has pine kernels and sultanas along with the tomato and herbs. cheese free pizzas are traditional in italy. generally what they do with them is fold one side over and make them like a big toasted sandwich. they are great, even meat eaters have said so. much less likely to cause heaviness or indigestion. much more balanced easy to digest meal. soya chunks always remind me of dog food. not that i have eaten dog food recently but i do wonder if anyone knows a mad enough veggie punk that would try veggie dog food in their sandwiches. i am sure that it is no worse than what i have eaten at some veggie cafes. on the subject of weird food, i think that i recently out did myself in terms of the weirdest food that i have ever eaten. [ previous record was mammoth tusk ... well it had been dead a long time and did die of natural causes ... a homeopathic dose of pre-history, it felt very weird i will tell you that ]. anyway a friend came back from japan where she knows a vegetarian/vegan buddhist nun that runs a veggie noticeboard site for japanese people. cool dame. she had heard of me and sent a present back ... vegan salmon roe [ vegan salmon eggs ] eurgh! this stuff was horrible but very weird and worth it from that point alone. only the japanese ... i had to ask to have the ingredients list read out to me several times and apparently they tasted very realistic but why!?! little salty jelly balls in an orangey gloop. i had never eaten the real thing. what's next, they also do vegan squid [ try it too ], vegan duck [ comes in cans from china town ]. actually, in new york there is a vegan oriental restaurant [ vegetarian paradise ] that does vegan steak medallions made from seitan and they were great, still pretty natural and fresh but thankfully not cooked rare. so what about another london dinner sometime somewhere central? john
