Guest guest
Last night I saw a story on the news reporting that nailbomb letters had been sent to animal farmers in Yorkshire. Personally, I am appalled by animal farming and really disheartened by the ignorance of people in the industry. However, I can't help thinking that such violent action in so unethical and inhumane, making the activists just as ignorant as the farmers in this respect. I am saddened that people who are obviously deeply concerned by animal rights can show such a lack of compassion. What if an innocent child had helped to open the package (as many children like to do)! Infact, there was an incident only a week ago involving a six year old girl suffering injuries after opening such a letter that had obviously been targeted at someone else. This isn't ethical is it? Peace to all.
Guest guest
Not ethical at all. This always bothers me and i always wonder if all reports are true, it seems that almost every animal rights story involves some type of violence. Which I and I wish every last one of us were against. What happens I think is that the news only picks up the sensationalistic stories, (ie violence, et al), while all the peaceful protests don't get any coverance and thus, less benefit for the movement. Frustrated, Jon - anastasiastatham vegan-network Saturday, January 06, 2001 9:06 AM Vicious attacks by activists Last night I saw a story on the news reporting that nailbomb letters had been sent to animal farmers in Yorkshire.Personally, I am appalled by animal farming and really disheartened by the ignorance of people in the industry. I'd go along with that. How many of us have been to protests with hundreds of people, but the press have reported 50? The closest I've been to violence is when I was at the cat farm in Oxfordshire, and someone on a pushbike, who we'd seen talking to the Police a number of times, tried to run down my dad. Unfortunately for him, his wheelie assault ended with him on his arse I know some people aren't as lucky. As depressing as this all sounds, I do think that we are getting there. P.S The rescued Hunt Beagles. I heard from a hunt supporter on the radio today that they would be suffering stress, now that they can be rehomed and live a full life. Obviously they would prefer to be shot and dumped in 5 years...
Guest guest
I think we are getting there, if not converting people away from meat, dairy, and eggs, at least most people are eating much less than they did before. And around the world protections are being put into place to help our fellow souls. And at least here in the US and probably more so in the UK, stores carry vegan products in the most unlikely of places. We are finally mainstreaming(in a good way). :-) The most frustrating part of it all is the gradual nature of it all. Nothing happens overnight, but just like the slave liberation in the US which people said would never happen, animal liberation will come too. ...and hopefully in my lifetime! --Jon PS ...i'm suuure those beagles would brefer to be shot.......yeah right. ....the dern media.... - Monkey vegan-network Saturday, January 06, 2001 4:29 PM Re: Vicious attacks by activists As depressing as this all sounds, I do think that we are getting there.P.S The rescued Hunt Beagles.
