Guest guest
Thanks for that. Very forthright which I liked. The guy in question is my lover and she is his daughter, not mine. When I decided to become vegan, he asked if I would buy meat and dairy products for him and his daughter. I said that if I am vegan then I would not be able to do this. It goes again this truth about veganism that I have realised (all I did was suddenly start thinking about it properly and clearly, instead of blocking it out). He said that I was being unreasonable and that I had no right to impose my diet choices on them. I said that he could still buy it for himself and his daughter but that I could not do so. The thing is, we are thinking of living together soon. His house is sold and we have found one we both like. He said that if I was doing a 'big shop' then I should get meat and dairy in for them. I said that I wouldn't do this and it has turned into a huge argument and possible cause for breakup. Another thing is that he has 3 cats. I love those cats, they're lovely. However, I can't work out the fact that they are carnivores - they need meat to survive (taurine and other properties derived from meat, otherwise they go blind through impairment of the retina cells, etc) so how do vegan catlovers reconcile that the meat producing industry is wrong but that we need to produce meat for out pets? Do vegans then rule out having carnivorous pets? Unless they find some strange vegan supplement for the cats, the cats will either become ill or turn to hunting down birds and mice to supplement their diet (which I'm not sure they could do, after a life of having catfood being given to them). This is a real dilemma. Anyone got any ideas? I've been vegan since the start of the year and have increased my passion for this lifestyle in the past few weeks. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense and the more you wonder why you didn't turn to it years ago. But that cat dilemma is still a worrier.
