Guest guest
>>how stressed out were you to need all those furry beasties?<< What I'm trying to say is that owning pets, and treating them with love, care, and rescpect, can improve your life. Our Maltese was given to us by a friend who kept him in a cage 24/7 except to go to the bathroom. A stray JRT found our home and after months of trying to find his owner unsuccessfully, we considered him ours. The other JRT came with my step dad. The 4 rabbits I have now are all rescues, 2 prevented from being slaughtered, and the other 2 were prevented from being put down in an animal shelter. My horse is a horse retired from racing who never made it but had great owners who sold him to very nice, educated people so he'd still have a great life to live. And I plan on getting a lab puppy this spring for my running buddy and someone to experiance agility with. In the spring I'm starting a rabbit rescue/adoption program in my back yard. Next year or the year after it will be the same only with dogs. Just because I eat absolutly no animal products doesn't turn me against all animals. They are a part of my life, without them I don't know what I'd do. Why do you think owning animals are cruel? I'm sure our animals are much happier living with us where they have laughter, company, food, fun walks, lots of cuddling, etc. I'm sorry I keep going off on tangents, I guess I'm wondering why you guys think it is so wrong to have pets.. Guest guest
Hi Sarah! In my opinion, it is not wrong to have pets providing you can care for them perfectly: Don't let your love for animals take you to the extremes where your house is stuffed with " gremlins " , because aside from being cute and wonderful, these creatures can present a great psychological (not to mention financial) strain when times are rough. I really wanted some kittens after our big cats died, but then decided not to get any after all as I am very busy during most of my week days and doubt I could provide them with the countless attentions that such beautiful and intuitive animals deserve. Even more so the case with dogs. Especially if you have a big dog, keeping him inside a house most of the day just seems wrong to me. I wouldn't keep one unless I had a farmstead where it'd be free to roam (cats care less - whatever they're used to, so a garden will do). Ditto for horses. If I want to be host for an animal., it truly should be my companion, not my mere after work stress relief, or weekend amusement. This is harsh perhaps, and I'm not saying people who keep dogs in apartments are heartless (I'm sure they love their doggies as much as the farmers - and even dogs get used to different living condidtions), but I am just speaking to myself, and asking you to make doubly sure that your compassion is not, in the end, (completely) self serving. Hugs, Katt _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
