Guest guest
Alright, I'm going to comment on the pets part. If you have space, adopt an animal from the shelter... plain and simple, 'cause if you don't, and nobody else will... they are going to die. This is provided you have space (don't feel guilty if you don't, 'cause if you don't and you adopt an animal, there life could be terribly miserable)... as far as pro-active... what is meant by that? nick
Guest guest
Sorry, I did reply expanding on my outburst, but either it has been intercepted or my pc's going all lardy!! anyway, it`s interesting to see that the moment you say radical & pro-active, even the vegans start shouting about the ineffectiveness of beating huntington executives with sticks. who mentioed violence? does pro-active or radical mean violence? all movements have their fringes, I understand the frustration that leads these people to do what they do. I grew up in West Belfast where violence was one of the primary forms of expression!! but to me pro-active simply means doing more than drinking soya milk. Yes we as a species are still young and ignorant, and maybe the world will inevitably come to have a vegan point of view. BUT...would this ever happen if we all sat in a field munching on the grass and hoping eveyone would join us? To me...radical & pro-active is coming up with anything that makes waves...When I was a young carnivore musician, I wasn`t to keen on the straight edge scene that was big at the time...to me they where superficial inbred piglets..... most of them seemed like they where doing it to be cool!!...I liked bands like fugazi (who where outspoken vegans apparently) but I never got the message....not until I had heated debates with people determined to debase my ignorant meat and two veg upbringing. I became veggie, having no veggie friends at about 23 (late I know...sorry)...I then ducked and dived the vegan issue until after having spoken to a girl giving out leaflets about the diary industry I picked up an old copy of animal free shopper in a charity shop....that sealed my fate. at 27 I became vegan no veggie friends, no vegan friends, but somehow the information got to me. Now to me...Radical & Pro active is finding creative and inspiring ways to enlighten people....we are in a very lucky position with our debate, in that the truth is on our side...In Ireland every politician and his Mother come up with the (short term stadegies that someone here mentioned) but the REAL changes happen else where. I did youth work for a year in Belfast, running cross community projects to try and get kids to understand that the people across the street are not monsters...they were brought up believing they were....but after spending a few days with them they would say thing likes... " they`re just like us, I can`t believe it " We did the same things with adults...but it was a much tougher battle!! Children have much more open minds...and they are the ones that I, seek to influence. Imagine if Pokemon had been vegan? And not a single bruise in sight!!...now that would be radical! www.ekokidz.com _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Guest guest
I've never met any 'violent' AR activists and I don't know anyone who has. Wasn't the attack on the HLS chap just a little too convenient an excuse for the press to unleash a stream of vile rhetoric (e.g. the Guardian editorial: 'well what about cats eating mice?') and the government to pass yet more authoritarian legislation? A bit of 'Reichstag fire' tactics perhaps? INDEED MICHAEL...I couldn`t believe the gaul of last saturdays guardian...and spread all over it...I am in the process of writing a reply...I suggest others do to!!...It was almost as if the column was written by huntingtons press officer! And If anyone watched newsnight lastnight (BBC2 U.K. T.V.) Did you see how desperate the stupid bitch was with her attempts to pin the " foot and mouth " outbreak on animal rights activists?......Newsnight is trying to become tonight with Trevor Mcdonald, and the Guardian has long lost it!!
