Its an initiative by Viva to discourage new meats getting a foot

hold. Most chains agreed not to stock Kangaroo/crocodile

etc.Sainsburies have gone back on that and apparently stockit again

[ostrich maybe]I dont differentiate eitherbut we can't keep

cow/pig/lamb out because thats what most people eat but per haps we

can boycott over exotics.Didnt know they did yoghourts, now I am in a

quandry!What about ice cream???

Red, what do you do for a living?

Angie,

I can see where that's coming from. From my experience people are put off

buying roo and Croc meat as it's unfamiliar and they associate it with the

animal. How weird is our society! Do you have some information on VIVA? I

hadn't even heard of them until the F & M special by the BBC.

Yofu is what it's called. So Good (Soya milk) are launching lots of

Soya-products (in Sainsburys). They already stock some. I think it's by

far the best tasting soymilk on the market.

I haven't seen ice cream. I get mine from H & B. They are sooo good. Made

my own Tofu on the weekend, much nicer than store bought stuff. Cheaper

too.

Both ASDA and Sainsbury's are doing a 'Swedish glace' - a vanilla, totally

vegan ice-cream substitute which is really scrummy, plus it's not that

expensive. I agree about Sainsbury's being good on vegan foodstuffs - got

some lovely Granose strawberry and Granose banana soya milkshakes from there

on Saturday. Quite cheap, about 49p each and great for taking to work with

packed lunches. I still think Holland and Barrett are the best I have yet

found. They do a few good vegan nutroast type things and some scrumptious

stuff in the fridge, plus they have the usual soya mince and chunks (dried

and frozen varfieties) and loads of different grains like millet and

buckwheat plus the delicious Granovita yeast spreads in metal tubes (try the

wild mushroom!) It's a bit dear to shop there all the time but as a treat, it

takes the dullness out of usual supermarket attempts.

I'm lucky there are 2 independent health stores where I live so I dont have

a problem getting the things you mentioned I rarely go to the large super

markets as I'm in walking distance of the Co-op and Iceland{and the health

stores]I just feel I should encourage super markets that are providing what

we want so they continue selling those items and interested people can also

buy them.[its also cheaper!!!]

The Sainsbury where I live is pathetic...all it has is natural yofu (yummy)

and tomor (which I don`t care for much at all)... The Holland and Barret is

really pokey, but I get " cheesly " , which grated up and mixed with olive

oil, chopped " wild " mushrooms, peppers etc, makes a nice toasty or pizza

topping...Another Fav is Granovitas Mayola...I could never handle the plamil

egg free mayo!!!...smells like paint!!

We have a decent Tesco (well compared to what it used to be), which also

stocks cheesly, most yofu stuff, but no swedish glace..I`m not one for

processed foods, and I never ate meat or dairy alternatives until our kid

was born, but now I`m quite partial to old Linda Mac's Southern Fried

Grills, in a bap, with organic salad and Granovitas mayo!!!...yummmmy!!

Unfortunately, during rush hour the other day just after I paid the girl on

the till, I was horrified to see a can of meatballs coming down the conveyer

belt towards me.

Mr Big " excuse me, but that isn`t mine "

Girl " well take it to customer services and they will give you a refund "

Mr Big " I`m sorry, but I`m not going to touch that, meat makes me sick "

Girl " oh...um...er "

The queue started to get frustrated

Girl " um...what if I put it in a bag? "

Mr Big (with a smile) " I don`t care what you put it in, meat makes me sick

and I`m not having anything to do with it. "

Girl " oh...um "

The queue were getting more and more frustrated and the girl was beginning

to malfunction.

Mr Big " If you don`t mind, I`m in a bit of a hurry! "

Finally the poor girl had to get up of her till, and walk all the way to

customer services with me, wait until someone came, about 2 minutes and then

get me my 39p refund.

I don`t know what happened to the queue.

I think we all need to be more awkward .Sometimes we seem to just keep

quiet,or appologise for being the odd one out.By standing up and being

noticed it makes it easier for the next vegan. Trouble is', it takes courage

and energy that we dont always have.Well done Mr Big

You're right Big. So Good has vitamin D3 in, du du duuuuuhh! Taken from

lanolin from sheep's wool. So strictly it's not Vegan. I wrote to So Good

about this and they replied that the wool came from sheep that weren't

killed for meat. That doesn't make them (the sheep) happy. I continued to

drink it because the amount of wool is minimal and I'm concerned about D3

intake through the winter. There's no F!!cking sun in this country! Plus

it's the only Soymilk I like. I make my own now (Tofu too). I prefer that.

So Good also said their new launch milk has D2 that is Vegan. What's the

difference between D2 and D3? Anyone know???

I made soya yoghurt from so good once, and I think

it's watered down.
