Guest guest
Sorry about all this mundaneness everyone, but there are many issues and contradictions that have popped up during the recent stone throwing. As Amanda points out rightly, to discriminate (or not care) about wether particular humans die or not is surely an extremely hypocritical statement. Because someone is a meat eater (or animal abuser) does not mean they should die. I am sure many of us here were meat eaters too at one point. Lesley (spelt right?) also posted information from someone who worked in an animal lab, and who had obviously reached a significant point of reflection in her life. This seems to be a huge stumbling block with vegetarians, vegans, non-smokers etc, and the last 50 posts or so also prove this. There are many people within this movement who are extremely opinionated. It is this self-righteous attitude that really angers people outside the movement. Also, I am sure many people have arrived at who they are now by many different paths. I myself include drug experiences among the factors that helped me question the inherited beliefs of the bleak culture I grew up in. I never met a overtly vegetarian or gay person until I was 18 - 19. I thought they were stupid, disgusting, against nature etc. But the culture I lived in never forced me or inspired me to rigerously question this. Fortunately, I didn`t become a burglar, terrorist, alcholic or corpse like many people where I grew up did. I went to college, " took drugs " , broadened my social horizons, left the country, went to university, started my own buisness, started a family and ended up where I am now. Earning in a year what my family and contempories would take at least 5 years to earn, and in a job where I can have a possitive engaging effect on peoples lives. I don`t slam or condemn any lifestyle. To box things up, or to stop people doing things is never going to work. People must be elevated to that way of thinking, not simply told that they are evil, stupid, childish, bad etc I haven`t been elevated at all during the last few days, just frustrated and annoyed at how intolerant we all can be.
