Guest guest Posted March 10, 2001 Report Share Posted March 10, 2001 > Unfortunately any film you see at the Cinima has been printed on a > Gelatine film...I have looked into this as I am a film maker and > there does not seem to be any alternative other than DIGI-BETA which > is a high resolution format used for T.V it is interesting but the next Star Wars movie may be the first ever major vegan movie. if you watch it on VCD. it is going to be shot and produced entirely in digital video as Lucas is convinced the high end tools are up for the job now. the final prints will be celluloid as said until Hollywood and humanity can come to some agreement over pirating. the technology is there to broadcast and project digitally but just to easy to rip off. the flip side is that to do DV you have to use computers which require a tremendous amount of unenvironmentally friend, hard to recycle, not to say toxic materials such as plastics and mercury, and a huge amount of energy and shipping to produce. it is a pay off for many vegan alternatives. it may be animal free but it wrecks the environmet\nt to do it. that leaves me a little more willing to be part of the recycling chain of old bodies from which i would not exclude human ones either. there must be a balancing point. there have been some vegan groups in the past that have tried to go completely animal free and wash their hands of the responsibility we have incurred through the evolution of animal husbandry. where anything for the sake of vanity is inexcusable, e.g. fur, leather etc; i would allow a certain amount of leeway for materials used for utility or as part of recycling waste. like in india where you can buy brahmin leather that has come from the hide of holy cows that have died. [ i hope that there is someone culling them when they get too sick ]. now whether gelatine in films could be considered utility is a difficult one. i am only glad that the popularisation of digital cameras is going to take over from the junk use of celluloid use by consumers. there was a quiet word said back in the midst of that flame war that i really appreciated; that being vegan was a process rather, i read it, than being an end destination. that was very profound. john Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
