Hello all,

I've always found veganism a very frustrating atittude. Frustrating in the way that you've realised the evil in your ways, you have changed them and that's it, the suffering is still there. What else can one do? Abstaining seems such an insignificant gesture.

Then I started having interior battles over the issue of spreading the faith ( the vegan faith).Should I try to convince others of my point of view or shoul i just let go and don't interfer in people's lifes? The final outcome of this struggle was my strong belief on the veganization of the world. I'm convinced that's the only way forward.

As I am a very shy and unacertive person, I had to forget the glory of the inflamed speechs and the beautifull letters to the local newspaper... I could only influence some of my friends. And I did, so far I've converted 2 people to vegetarianism and I'm proud.

Unlike Lesley, I don't demonize smokers ( I hold nothing against them but I can perfectly see Lesley's point) for their lesser veganism... The problem is above all the meat and dairy eating habits because the day it sops being such a huge thing all the other products, that at the moment use animal substances, will look for other solutions. Don't forget that a lot of extra "materials" are created when you have millions of animals being slaughtered and that has to be used in something.

I personnaly think that sometimes veganism gets too petty and through little things we loose focus. It's the source of all those small things that has to be exterminated and then things will follow their natural course. It's not by fighting the tobacco industry for using some animal product that you are going to affect the meat production.

My best regards

I thought the tobacco industry was responsible for a large amount of animal suffering in vivisection labs Buying cigarettes pays for it .If vegans who smoke ,picture a smoking beagle/rabbit every time they light up, maybe it will help them to quit. Then hopefully they,ll have longer /healthier lives and more money to help promote animal rights/veganism.Angie

Dear Angie,

I totally agree with you on the role played by the tobacco industry on animal suffering. I'm sorry, it was a bad example I used to express my idea. But still, I have to say that a lot of the testing done is not carried out by the tobacco industry itself but by the big pharmaceutical companies to study the effects of smoke.

My point is that animal products are often used because people eat meat and so on, so much so that there's excess which is a cheap and easy ingredient for other industries.

Joana

PS- I also don't smoke or like people smoking around me.
