Guest guest
Exactly Mr Big! Whatever did happen to Fry's 5 centres...they were lovely...I still buy the basic minty fondant centred one. I also buy the Hobnobs cos they're vegan and are scrummy!

Guest guest
>On the other hand we want vegan chocolate to be popular and available so >others will buy it simply cos they like it. I often bought Fry's as a >child{carnivore] but then it ceased to exist .We dont want to lose it do >we? This is definately an important point Angie, just as the shopping at Tesco and Sainsburys is. I (in my mild dementia) remember boycotting a health food shop in Newport(S.Wales) that started selling Battery Eggs, yet I still went to Tesco etc who sold any shit under the sun. The Point was that the Health Food shop should have known better, and the move into " battery eggs " was a greedy and sinister move. The issue with big stores however is (as you say,) that if we buy vegan products then they remain available and accessable to " normal " people. It also makes the big stores see " vegan " products as ones that can be profitable. I think they should be congratulated (in writing) and coaxed into making more. How much more profitable could dark chocolate digestives be if they were " vegan " . It certainly isn`t difficult, and I doubt it would make anyone who already buys them go " oh no, theres no milk in these " . These are considerations that manufacturers should start bearing in mind. O.k., so they don`t give a shit about the animals, but they do about money, and if they can sell more by iradicating an unimportant ingrediant then great!! I wrote to McVities about 4 years ago complaining about the unnessecary use of animal fat in hob-nobs. They sent me a pathetic reply saying it was " the traditional housewifes recipe " and that I shouldn`t worry as it wasn`t " lard or beef fat " ?????....anyway, about 6 months later I noticed the animal fat was removed from the recipe. I wonder how many people had complained?? or if vegetable fat just became cheeper??? p.s. What ever did happen to Fry`s 5 centres??? Guest guest
wahey...look at this report from AOL news:-ANIMAL CULLS ARE 'TURNING PEOPLE VEGETARIAN' Tuesday 27 March 2001 11:59am Agriculture minister Nick Brown People have been so traumatised by the mass culls of animals they are becoming vegetarian. The Vegetarian Society has been inundated by calls from people who have found the foot-and-mouth outbreak " the final straw " . Call numbers have doubled in the past two months as people ask for advice about a vegetarian diet, a society spokeswoman says. Thousands of people, ranging from children to a woman in her 80s, have been in touch. " We have been very busy with calls, up 100% in March compared to January's figures from members of the public, " the spokeswoman said. " It is mainly people who have made the decision to become vegetarian on the back of the foot-and-mouth crisis. People have seen the images of animals being killed, thrown around, left dead on farms and put on to fires. " Other people just have a longer feeling of distrust with meat, " she added. Some calls were from parents whose children have been so upset by the images that they had asked to stop eating meat. " We had a call from a woman in her 80s from Jersey who had become a veggie. Having seen and heard all about this she decided she could never eat meat again, " the spokeswoman said. The society's statement came as members of campaign group Viva are set to dress in lamb costumes outside Liverpool Street railway station in London and unfold a giant banner saying: " If killing 'healthy' lambs upsets you - don't eat them " . Mark - now all we have to hope is people go all the way and stop using all animal products...some of them will use their noggin more than the others, so we might gain some more companions! Guest guest
I had a look Tom, cheers....I notice it has the Fry`s range of chocolate bars as the only ones without any animal ingredients. However, when I went to the FAQ`s and clicked on which products do not contain milk it says this: " In line with the definition in the Food Intolerance Databank, Cadbury Ltd does not manufacture any product which is entirely free from milk. " can anyone shed any light on this???? does this mean Fry`s are not vegan???? aghhhhhhhhh.... p.s. I see walkers have started labeling their crisps better. I used to occasionally eat the paprika ones and was nearly sick when I found out they have beef in them... The salt and vinegar ones seem ok though...which is rare...s & v with no sign of lactose.. Guest guest
I'm sure that means they're done on the same production line. So wash and peel those chocolates every one! Yeh wasn't that nice of them! I was almost through an entire packet (they're big okay!) when I noticed the whey and beef ingredients, yuck. Since when has paprika tasted anything like beef? mr big [pervyempire] 27 March 2001 10:38 vegan-network Re: cadburys chocolate..not friendly I had a look Tom, cheers....I notice it has the Fry`s range of chocolate bars as the only ones without any animal ingredients.
