Guest guest
Hi Anne, Just wondered - 7 is quite young to become veggie; were/are your parents veggie? Hope you stick with veganism! --Rob vegan-network, " Anne Grainger " <annejrgrainger@h...> wrote: > Hi everyone, > Brief personal history tro join the current trend > Age 17 > Studying chemistry, biology, maths and english lit. > Vegetarian for ten years > Vegan for three months (when I met with vegans for the first time, and saw > it was possible.) > Ambition to study animals in the wild. > Best novel The dark materials trilagy, believable fantasy! > > Just thought I'd say what a brilliant website animal aid has, > www.animalaid.org.uk the active page in the kids section has a petition we > all should be signing. Guest guest
Hey Rob, >Just wondered - 7 is quite young to become veggie; were/are your >parents veggie? Hope you stick with veganism! Yeah my dad was a vegetarian and still is, (except he eats fish and non-veggie wine.) So my family has never eaten that much meat. My best friend at the time turned veggie because of BSE in the news, I copied! (I was only little) I ended up being the strictest veggie of the three. I would have never been able to become vegan if not for my dad, my mum was brought up in a meat and two veg family. ( who do not know as of yet that I am vegan, I'm in for an interesting time when they find out, as I get asked, ' so why are you vegetarian Anne?' at every meal as it was!) Guest guest
Hey Anne, interesting , thanks. With regard to family questions, I think we've all been there. My grandmother used to work on a farm, and whenever I ate at her place she would always (every single time) offer me meat and say " it won't hurt you " . Hmm - its not me I'm worried about Gran! If we were eating out as a family my brother always used to take delight in ordering the rarest steak he could and making a point of showing me the blood. I'm not squeamish at all, and my points about the wider issues were completely missed. ....talking of families... My sister went veggie at about 13 (my mum wouldn't let me until I left home for uni at 18) and still is at 41. She's tried being vegan a few times but gets ill (I tell her she must be doing something wrong!). Oh, and I got my mum to turn veggie once, but she went to her GP who was horrified and told her not to be so stupid. Its a shame that my mum's the sort of person who thinks doctors are gods and believes everthing they say My other sister has two children (my niece and nephew), and I know my niece wants to be veggie (and is as far as her mum lets her!) but I'm not sure her father approves. But she's going to Uni soon, and it might be in London near to me, her vegan uncle, and my sister, her veggie aunt, so there's a chance of " conversion " ! :-) bye for now.
