Guest guest
So Mr Big, How serious are you about this vegan company? I've been a freelance programmer for the last 4 years, and in the business for 11 years or so. Now I want to use my technical skills for ethical/vegan causes - either companies, charities, groups, anyone really! With Open Source its possible to create complex/powerful architectures, just like multinational companies use, but for free. What you need is the technical people to put it all in place. Since I currently work through my own company I was thinking of using that. I'm interested in setting up servers and web servers for organisations and administering them. I can currently offer web hosting. I'm still thinking about what exactly I could offer, and its a bit vague. I was thinking of creating a loose coalition of like minded people with relevant skills (could be technical, programmers etc, designers, artists, writers etc), so if a project came up we could just get together on it (and I don't see why we shouldn't be able to work remotely), and maybe front it all with my/any company. I use a powerful open source (read free!) web application, which is ideal for creating virtual communities online, so it could be used to organise the coalition and also offer web-based applications to ethical groups (e.g a community web-site, with membership features, dynamic content etc). Anyway, these are just some of my random thoughts. I don't know many like-minded people, so I was going to start it all on my own by offering free or low cost websites to some vegan charities, and see if it grew from there (since I've already paid for a server). I do know a vegan graphic designer who was recently asked to quote for a vegan website - he knew I could offer webhosting so he gave that as an option to the client also. Still waiting to hear though. What do other people think? (I'm no businessman) Cheers, Rob vegan-network, " mr big " <pervyempire@h...> wrote: > > > Seems there are a lot of computy types dancing artound this > network....Wouldn`t it be nice if we could all join forces and start a vegan > multinational. > > > MrBig > > 31 yrs > > born belfast, living in bishops stortford, hertfordshire, hoping to move to > brighton. > > working for www.punkrocket.co.uk, small animation company. > > Married, 1 vegan kid (nearly 2), one comming (oct). > > Vegan 3 years Veggie 5 before that. > > Favourite music: King Missile, Ween, Rapeman, Sonicyouth, Butthole Surfers, > Lou Reed, anything before 1960, and much much more. > > Ambition. Guest guest
>How serious are you about this vegan company? >What do other people think? (I'm no businessman) I've been thinking about setting up some kind of ethical software collective / company for a while now. It sounds like were coming from a really similar place; what Rob says about getting the high-tech solutions into the grassroots / ethical arena really rings true. I'm heavily into possibilities of XML for structured data on internet, particularly as regards what I call 'Ecological Design Data', eg: Useful plants, alternative technology, building materials etc. It would be great to get some kind of network / co-op together... What about forking off a new list for some ethical developer networking? (Apologies if this is bad nettiquete - I just guess it could get quite off topic for everyone else) Cheers Matt http://www.greenerfuture.org.uk (work in progress)

Guest guest
Hello spacevegan, Sunday, April 08, 2001, 8:03:39 PM, you wrote: I also wish to make a vegetarian community, it should be a site which will provide business resources for enterprises owned by vegetarians and/or producing vegan products. Also there will be a program " active veg " which will help improve quality of vegan products so that non veg people will switch to vegan food just because of it quality. (I have also many ideas about this, but it is to much to write) Also I have domain vegnews.org, I'm building now software for this domain, and I'm looking for volunteers who are vegan/vegetarians and know English very good, preferable native English speakers, and could help building content. (later will be added more languages) I plan to finish site structure in 2-3 months, and after this news will be needed. s> I've been a freelance programmer for the last 4 years, and in the s> business for 11 years or so.
