I was so pleased when Tony Blair brought the anti fox hunting issue to the House of Commons and that it won the majority of votes. However, when it went to the Lords it was pushed out. Why do we vote for MPs if at the end of the day the "Lords" have the final say? Big sigh!!!

With the forthcoming elections coming up, could someone in the UK please give me their knowledge of the best (if any!!!) party to vote for?

This is the most sensible answer I've heard to your question, Jane ~ I thought I'd forward as it might strike a cord with some:

I'll be voting (for the first time) for which ever group, which.

1. Isn't Labour (tuition fees)

2. Isn't Conservative (effed up generally)

3. Has a hybrid PR (proportional representation) system in the Manifesto.

4. Has something in their manifesto that improves AR/AW.

PR rules! but not pure PR. I.E. how can the government rule even though they were in the minority (conservatives). IE Most Labour voters would have Lib Dems as their 2nd choice, not the conservatives. Most Lib dems would rather vote labour than see the conservatives get in.

Spot the aussie.

PS I think you should all be fined like in Auz if you can't be bothered to vote. As the fines, finance the wining party, most people will vote, and if you don't want to vote, go to the poles and do a "donkey vote", not that you could without PR.

(A donkey vote is when you number your ballet paper 1-10 from top to bottom, or deliberately stuff it up).

That's the kind of comment I'd expect from one of the most un-democratic

societies in the western world. I know, why don't we just leave the voting

to the house of lords, better yet, lets hand the " democratic " process over

to the queen.

You're not being forced to vote, you're being forced to get you lazy pucker

down to the polling station, or else make a compulsory donation (fine) to a

political party who you'd probably rather kill and eat.

Why is it that ridiculous?

By that reasoning forcing people to obey speed limitations is " ridiculous " .

We live in a society, one that allows it's members not to vote is no

different to one that has no road rules. It's there for everyone's benefit.

A lot of things are " ridiculous " , but when people have to pay up, they'd

rather be ridiculous. Wouldn't you?

Then we'd have real stats from the polls, % of people who didn't vote (too

rich), % of people who really didn't care about politics (donkey vote) and

the vast majority who want a say in it.

Britain needs to grow up (in a political sense).

If you don't feel affinity with any of the red, yellow or blue tories competing for power, you can always spoil your vote. This is not opting out or not being bothered - but actively demonstrates your dissatisfaction & wish for the system to present a more representative choice.

how would forcing people who are disenchanted with all members of the

political system give you real stats? That is soooo stupid. I suppose we are

back to the usual stuff here....lot`s of vegans want to force the world to

conform to their superior understanding of it....I`m not one of them

ok?...so stuff your votes! I`m not playing.

We vote for the Green Party, but I agree with you that it's wrong to

force people to vote if they don't think there is anyone worth voting

for.

For fooks sake, I'm not advocating forcing people to vote. What I am

advocating is to get off their lazy puckers and go to a polling station.

Okay Mr disillusioned (I don't blame you), perhaps you don't vote out of

genuine disillusionment, but I bet the vast majority of lack of turn out is

just " can't be bothered " people.

As for the comment about Veganism, last time I checked, Australia was a

country of meat guzzling people, they force people to poll. Fair go mate!

I vote {maybe spoil it] in gratitude to the women who made it possible .My

grand mother couldn't vote till she was 30. You're a man you would have had

the vote anyway. Those women suffered for me .I can spare min .There are

still olaces where women can't vote.Perhaps those who have a valid reason

for not voting could all write the same message on their forms then the

message would get through that you have a reason and it isn't just

Its my job --I'm a teacher. People have to see the correct spelling to

reinforce it. I think some people use dyslexia as an excuse 'cos they can't

be bothered.{I'm not saying you do although you do deliberately spell

Lesley's name incorrectly] Angie

Hey another female-male trait.

Judgement of speed and distance, location of sounds.

I've never seen a male driver not take a safe opportunity to turn across

traffic. I've seen countless woman not able to judge the speed and distance

of oncoming cars, while turning across traffic.

Having said that females are better at doing a multitude of things at once,

which is just too much for our single focused male brain.

My one most annoying thing is car insurance. Like the F & M hypocrisy, there

are simply more men driving on the road. 84% of males hold licences, while

50% of females hold licences. Of those, coupled people- the man drives most

of the time. The result.. Men have more crashes than woman. Predictable.

What's rubbish science is stating men are worse drivers than women. Any

excuse to put the insurance up. The latest one being smoking.

I'd take em to court if I had the money
