Guest guest
Hello, Wouldn't it be better if all vegans will join their efforts to live together in houses where all will be vegan/vegetarians? I think it will make living more easy. -------- Best regards, Sergio, CEO vegan http://www.royalwebhosting.com Royal Web Hosting - Royal Quality Hosting
Guest guest
I quite agree. BUT> where can it be done? I cannot see people being willing to move for such a reason, when it provides benefits which are (slowly) appearing in the major cities anyway. [ii] The police may block us in on demo days so we cannot leave our 'close' ....discuss. [iii] I want to convert people! > Hello, > >Wouldn't it be better if all vegans will join their efforts to live >together in houses where all will be vegan/vegetarians? Check out: http://www.rootstock.org .uk check out:http://www.radicalroutes.org.uk/housing.html They help set up housing co-ops & sustainable communties & list loads across 'uk'. Tel: 0870-458-1132 also, send an SAE to @ Places needing people, c/o Diggers & Dreamers, c/o Edge of Time, BCM Edge, London, WC1n 3XX as they (both rootstock/radical routes & diggers & dreamers) will be able to put you on to all the vegan co-ops & communities they know about or help you start one up. I want to start up a 'housing' co-op along the river - so that boaties can be self sufficient, move about and not get hassled by the authorities. There are several up & running. An aquaintance of mine is travelling around the uk at the moment checking co-ops out. Its a good idea if you can & are serious about it. I put some info below which I found in a co-op in Stratford that has vegan only houses ~ skim through if interested: http://www.susx.ac.uk/Users/iane/coops/clayslane.html Clays Lane Housing Co-operative Ltd Status: Existing community Address: The Community Centre, Clays Lane Housing Co-operative, Clays Lane, Stratford, London, El5 2UQ. Children do not live permanently on the co-operative Year started: 1984 Situation: Urban Ideological focus: Friendship, shelter and community Legal Structure: Industrial and Provident Society (Registrar of Freindly Societies reg. no. 21870R) Registered with the Housing Corporation (Reg. no. C2426) Open to new members? Yes Describe your group briefly: what it does; whether it exists already or not; etc: Clays Lane Housing Co-operative is a thriving community, (we are a fully mutual co-operative), situated in London's east end. We provide accommodation for single people aged 18 - 65, without prejudice; we have a strong commitment to equal opportunities. New tenants are not expected to provide a deposit, and our rents are among the cheapest in London. Clays Lane was built in 1984, and consists 107 houses arranged into ten courtyards. 57 houses are shared and purpose built for four, six or ten people. Additionally there are 40 self contained flats and ten self contained bungalows, which are available to members of the co-operative through a waiting list system. Our houses are mostly ethnically mixed and some are vegetarian or vegan. We allow pets, (lots of houses have cats), but most pets are okay, as long as its with the agreement of other house members. Decisions are made through democratic house and courtyard meetings, as well as through elected representatives. We have a committee structure comprising of a management committee and four sub-committees: membership, maintenance, equal opportunities and finance. Everyone who lives on the co-operative is expected to take some part in the day to day running, though this can range from cooking food for the monthly courtyard meeting to interviewing new members to being the chair of the co-operative. The minimum committment is to attend six coutyard meetings a year, and to pay your rent promptly, but the sucess of the co-operative depends on the willingness of members to join in.
