Hi all - I thought I'd just quickly introduce myself, then go back to

lurking! I've recently decided to give veganism a go, having been

veggie for 5 years. I am 30, work for an oceanographic laboratory, am

studying for an earth sciences degree (already have a BA), and own

two

cats (both rescued ex-ferals) and two dogs. I do agility with one of

the dogs. Although I have chosen to be veggie/vegan myself, I feed my

dogs raw, fresh meat, fish, and veggies - I believe this is the

healthiest, most natural diet for them, and I am as concerned for

their health as I am for my own! Unforunately that does mean I am

still a part of the meat industry, but I don't see any way around it.

Dogs are carnivores, I'm not. I've found this group very useful so

far, with links to different sites, and its interesting to see how

people differ in their beliefs too - we all have to draw our own line.

You may be interested to know that " Vegan: the new ethics of eating "

can now be downloaded complete & free from www.vegan.com - worth

reading, even for committed vegans.

Ok, back to lurking now :)

Excellent! From what I know, dogs don't need meat. There is a food that's

non-meat for dogs, not criticising your practices, merely informing. Cat's

do need meat as they are true carnivores.

There is a way round this problem,

See the Vegan Society information on pet feeding, and how it can be

done vegan with no dcost to the animals' health.
