Does it just mean > people who don't take drugs? > As I understand it, that is what it means and I think real straight edgers avoid caffeine drinks and other legal drugs as well as the illegal ones. Not all straight edge people are vegan, but there is quite a strong straight edge vegan movement in the US. I heard they are also against promiscuity. Some, though not all, are very pro-life too. I heard it was popularised by a band called Earth Crisis. I can't call myself straight edge because I am not entirely teetotal and drink cola drinks. I have a hell of a lot more respect for straight edge vegans than I have for people who will try just about anything which could harm them. I know I have enough bad habits (vegan junk food mostly) without acquiring more, so for me straight edgers are setting a good example of being healthy and keeping a clear head. Guest guest
there was a good article (probably in the Guardian) earlier this year. Look it up if you have CDROM access. I'd tell you about it but I have only read that article and my impression of it is therefore limited. Does it just mean people who don't take drugs? ack ok..i'm probably really late with this (sorry, don't read all me e-mails as often as i should) str8 edge was a subset of the early 1980's punk movement it started in Washington DC and quickly spread across the country, then around the world it's "founding fathers" were bands like minor threat (ian mackaye is in fugazi) in the late 80's it became more militant in certian respects, findind strongholds in NYC, Southern california, and utah(??!!!) basically, it means having yer "head on straight" no drugs, drinking, sex, etc... str8 edge means different things to different folks....and the movement has changed an awful lot over the years... but..as the song sez "don't smoke don't drink don't f*ck at least i can f*cking think.." *out of step* minor threat cheers fraggle
