Women are actively encouraged to go into this sort of work, but still, few do. Men normally have better viso-spacial ability, females multitasking lingual abilities. I agree with what you say though on the individual basis. Now that these things aren't necessary for our races survival, more women are shift to " men " skills and more men are shifting to " women " skills. Which can only be a good thing. The majority of variability in these skills is attributable to individual variations and not gender. In other words, your gender does not determine whether you will be better or worse in these areas than any other individual (be they male or female). Also, there is no evidence that language skills and logical reasoning / visuo-spatial ability / or whatever are mutually exclusive. There are many examples of high performance in both of these categories in many individuals. Goethe, Lady Ada Lovelace, Coleridge spring to mind, and there are many more examples.
