Guest guest
There was a PeTA spokes person on radio 4 talking about their targeting of British schools with an anti-dairy campaign. They had a head teacher responding who was.... D-D-Deeeeh ------ part of the dairy foundation. Every time I hear someone from cowdom saying people are getting osteoporosis from not drinking enough milk, A Vegan rage (worst than any other rage) boils. He also denied dairy is cruel and said he'd consider any protest outside a school as he would " weird " strangers intising school children. Pity I can't remember his name or school. I might just go and join in. I had this strange dream last night, I was being threatened by someone wielding two rather large cleavers, I wonder how many meaties have dreams like that! So real though, I can remember feeling the sharpness of them.
Guest guest
Thanks Rowan. Can't help with the dreams I'm afraid but the interview is currently available at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/listen/listen.shtml It is a classic of its type. (The teacher's stated connection with the dairy industry was that he was a dairyman looking after 200 cows " way back in the past " .) On the whole, I'd rather see dairy issues raised inside the schools; maybe that will happen as a side-effect of the campaign. Not all headteachers are like this one, although, to be fair, he wasn't actually asked in the interview whether he would invite or accept PETA or any other organization into his particular school. Guest guest
Thanks for that, although I can't listen to it again. The thing that really annoys me is they could have had a reasonable head teacher who would welcome PeTA into their school to show the other side as well that dairy bigot. But nooooo, they have to be all sensationalistic and try to set a precedent for all schools to put up the barricades. I wouldn't accuse the programme of sensationalism in this case but the convenient interviewing device of two opposing views mediated by a notionally neutral interviewer (which on the face of it might seem reasonable) can, as the participants fall into their assigned roles, easily lead to polarization, which can have effects outwith the studio. A greater danger of such after-effects this in this case, as the headteacher, Mick Brookes, is President of the National Association of Head Teachers, who one might assume is in a position of some influence. Any idea how I should go about getting PeTA into my kids' school, or at least to the older kids in the middle school next door where my son starts in September? We appear to be the only vegan family in Pinner Park First School and it gets lonely for me not being able to relate to the other parents, like I am on a different planet or something. I did hear there was a teacher in the middle school who was vegan, and my son's first teacher for nearly two years was a nice vegetarian lady, but he hasn't been in her class for almost two years now. The vegan families in Harrow on the whole are not a very friendly lot despite my best efforts, and I really want PeTA to come and get the message across to the families around here.
