I think the best anti-soya propaganda I ever read was that mother's

eating too soya soya gave birth to baby boys with small willies.

relax guys, this will not effect you retrospectively.

you'll never guess who sponsored the research...

and how did they do it anyway? any bloke running around with a ruler

measuring little boy's jack harry's ought to be locked up for being a

perve in the first . even someone thinking about doing such a study is

insane enough, how did they ever get funding?

the whole soya thing is bollocks. very big vegan bollocks.

Did you ever watch " Goodness Gracious Me! " , the Asian comedy sketch

programme, with Meera Syal and Nina Wadia as two mothers boasting

about their sons accomplishments, and the sketches always ended with

some reference to one son having a bigger willy than the other,

although they had their own name for it. " Dunda " I think it was.

Your message just reminded me for a moment of those sketches.

I don't think soya is unhealthy although TVP and some sausages taste

just too meat-like for my personal tastes.

But tofu is nice scrambled up with soya sauce, turmeric, and

seasoning as scrambled egg substitute. I don't eat it all the time

but I wouldn't worry if I did eat it more often.

I think it's especially weird how mertle seems to be more concerned

more about soya than about cigarette smoking as a health hazard,

really screwed up priorities there I think, mertle, I can't believe

you can worry about soya while still smoking. Why did you start once

you had had your son anyway, even after your parents had forced you

to breathe it as a child, surely you want to do better for your kids?

There is NO such thing as a safe level for smoking, it's 100% foul

poisons and allergens, nothing good there to outweigh the bad,

whereas for soya there surely is a safe amount, there is plenty of

good which outweighs what little bad has been discovered.

John, you are quite right to challenge mertle in my opinion.

Like John I'll support anyone who is a pregnant smoker (or any

smoker, especially a parent) if she gives up smoking, and I will

completely give up coca-cola and similar drinks such as Pepsi to

prove I am happy and able to also give up one of my own unhealthy

habits, if having a pact like this will help in urging someone to

quit, I will do it if they will! I don't think that a few cola drinks

are truly comparable to smoking, but it's probably the worst thing I

can think of that I do and is not healthy and a little hard to give

up.

Just before I first got together with my hubby we knew each another

in London Vegans and we had a pact where he gave up smoking and I

gave up biting my nails (even though no-one ever died from nail-

biting, so again it was not really comparable to cigarettes). It

worked for him and although I am not a nail-biter now, I didn't

manage to stop easily.
