Guest guest
As an ethical vegan, I object to my tax pounds subsidising ethically wrong practises, like animal agriculture. I think I'd like to pay my taxes into a veggie tax fund to be spent on everything ethical. I think this is just as important as not buying unethical things to restrict their income and reflect their real demand. How does one go about this? MP's? Demo's? A new political/media pressure. how about PEST (people for the Ethical Spending of Taxes)?

They are peace campaigners who would like to put the portion of their taxes that goes to the military into a peace-building fund instead. We could probably look into what they are doing for pointers. I believe that such freedom of conscience for vegans would only happen if we had our own vegan nation, separate from the omnis, where we could set an example for the rest of the world to follow. I believe we are stronger together and should seriously consider working towards this as our numbers grow. Lesley
Guest guest
i don't see why we need a vegan nation to have a democratic tax system. What about not paying taxes, but putting it in a bank account. When the tax man calls give the account details and make them sign a document stating everything. Some nations already have a partial democratic tax system where only some of your taxes you have a choice as to where they go. We wouldn't need positions to say where the nation spent it's money, as it would decide by the nation. Perhaps 30% should be automatically decided on basic things like fire/police/NHS. But the remaining 70% you should have a choice. Even a PR system where every year or four we go to the polls and rank say, 10 items as to where we want most/least of our money to go.
