My advice was that she should remind them of the existence of the new anti-discrimination law, the Human Rights Act, which outlaws religious and beliefs-based discrimination. I believe that vegans can and should where necessary use this law to their advantage, whether they are discriminated against by social services, or in the workplace. That is absolutely outrageous! I had no idea being vegan could prevent someone from giving a child a loving home! I guess a lot of people are ignorant about the health benefits of a vegan diet and think that this would be 'abusing' a child in some way, perhaps? If that is the case, maybe they should look at what others are feeding their adopted children. That sounds like good advice you gave her. I really hope something comes of it. There is someone on the Vegan Society council who is supporting these parents, but it's a pretty bad time for them. This is why vegans need to get tough and use anti-discrimination law to protect our right to live this way. I'm angry that they would prefer to target vegans rather than the many parents and pregnant women who smoke and who are clearly harming their kids, but they get away with it mostly because they live and eat fairly conventionally. They have their priorities totally messed up when it comes to child protection. One vegan mum is being picked on because her child is not potty trained (she is not three yet!), and because she lets her sleep with her, and she is still breastfeeding. (this is 18 years ago). i then returned to veganism when i was 17. and because she lets her sleep with
her, and she is still breastfeeding.
my mum brought her children up sleeping with her untill they felt comfortable to sleep on their own. i stopped when i was about 8/9 love lola __________ Get your free @.co.uk address at http://mail..co.uk or your free @.ie address at http://mail..ie

Guest guest
We need to know where and when this kind of bullying goes on.We should all band together {Especially those who have vegan children ]to defend our lifestyles. We could all write letters to the authorities concerned.,and write to the local newspapers. Bullies only get away with it in secret .The facts have to be made public. These families need our support surely Angie-- --- Original Message ----- " Lesley Dove " <100706.3632 <vegan-network > Wednesday, May 23, 2001 7:43 PM Re: population ethics (not the subject change !) > > You don't know the half of it, there are at this moment several vegan > families (I know of at least four) facing the possibility of having > their children taken into care, and mostly because of anti-vegan > prejudice and ignorance from social services. They and only they can make that decision, although it is frustrating to know this is happening, and not being made public. If it was me, I would go to the media in a big way and make it public, but it isn't my choice. One has been advised by her solicitor not to annoy the authorities but I think she should be complaining and suing right now. They are getting good support from Stephen Walsh of the Vegan Society council, and those who are long-term breastfeeding I think have La Leche League support and information to pass on to the authorities. I know that it is happening in Manchester, in a couple of London boroughs, both north and south London, and Hertfordshire, but that is all I can say. Obviously I can't discuss who these people are, but those I know slightly seem very stable and responsible parents. I wish I could do more. Guest guest
How can we EVER expect children to report bullying when adults keep quiet.!!All the vegans +all long term breast feeders would be a formidable group to fight against .One isolated family is easy to knock down. Do solicitors always get it right? Is the solicitor knowledgeable about the issues?Does he'/she care? I bet most vegan mothers breastfeed for longer than the " norm " .What is the time accepted by the Social Services anyway,? DO these families know each other.they would feel less isolated if in contact.. I sometimes think those in power are too full of their own importance. The doctor who told me my son could be made a ward of court{because I wantd to leave hospital 2 days after the birth as originally decided.--She wanted me to stay to get my diet sorted out and for the milk to come thro'--I'd been vegan for 12yrs at the time!!!___ Per haps she thought vegans wouldn't produce milk!!! ] Another woman in the ward was constipated for 7 days/had her newborn circumcised/Used to go out to smoke/the child was heavily jaundiced/the child was put in the nursery at night/and bottle fed[her choice]. This mother was fussed over -no threats! She had a bowl ful of fruit and never ate it !] Strange world we live in Angie r- " Lesley Dove " <100706.3632 <vegan-network > Wednesday, May 23, 2001 11:36 PM Re: population ethics (not the subject change !) > vegan-network, " Angie Wright " <angiewright@n...> wrote: > > We need to know where and when this kind of bullying goes on.We > > . It is so unfair how they would rather target vegans, who in most cases are very caring people. It also makes me angry that a former neighbour of mine was a drug abuser, was in and out of jail all the time for assault and yet he still has his kids!! It's insane!
