Guest guest
Hiya everyone, On the subject of vegan families adopting kids, my mum,( who is a social worker) says that as adoptive parents you would first have to foster the child. During this period the parents or courts would have control over whether or not the child was vegan. she says you would have to prove your diet was healthy and the childs weight and growth would be carefully monitered, if they lost weight/ didn't put weight on in periods they should be growing the foster care would end. also local authorities want kids immunised and so wouldn't look favourably on perspective parent who disagree with this. I'm sure I've heard of a man who refused to pay the government the part of his tax which was spent on arms. Instead he tried to pay in bread instead, (he was a baker) I'm quiet sure he went to prison for this. Watch out. (nice idea anyway.) Could anyone help, I have to apply to uni this year, I want to work with animals, preferably studying wild ones. or work finding scientific evidence for animal organisations, like CAPS and animal aid. or studying nuitrition to become a nuitritionalist. This would probably involve a biology type course, I obviously don't want to do dissection. Does anyone know of / have been to a uni where this is possible? Is there any alternative routes which don't involve uni? Any advice would be much appriciated. Thankyou Anne _______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
Guest guest
Anne', I studied Biol at York Uni 30 years ago .We were told to kill a rat to study the muscles .I didnt nor did my partner ..We got the results from the others. .I ended up with a pet rat {I sneaked it out after learning that he would have been killed as he would no longer be germ free !!] We also looked at fruit flies and I used to let mine out of the window. You need to ask if there is much animal work involved. It depends on the lecturers preferences You may need to choose topics for study that are less likely to involve animals. I avoided animal phisiology for that reason Good Luck Angie - " Anne Grainger " <annejrgrainger <vegan-network > Thursday, May 24, 2001 7:41 PM adoption and uni > > > > Could anyone help, I have to apply to uni this year, > This would probably involve a biology type course, I obviously don't want to > do dissection.
