Guest guest
Jerry's talk in Liverpool Uni Law Dept yesterday only attracted 5 people! I was so mortified to hear of the poor turnout. Even Preston, a much smaller town, attracted double that number (mostly law students, one vegan who made a wonderful effort took time off work and had Jerry to stay over, and I think one or two other AR/vegans) and Sheffield AR got over 30 at their meeting! Is Paul with a strong Liverpool accent your friend from Bootle Suzy? I think he might have been there according to Jerry (we spoke on the phone last night), and Prof. Stephen R.L. Clark, the Head of the Philosophy (who has written a lot on animal rights issues) was there. So it was a bonus that Jerry got to meet him, as he is interested in Philosophy. I still can't believe the generally poor interest from Liverpool AR/vegan people in Jerry's vegan civil liberties case. He came all the way from the US and this is just a bit sad. Anyone any idea what might have caused the low turnout? I know that the organiser (a law lecturer, not a vegan) told a lot of people in the law dept and sent a flyer out to legal professionals and I phoned and emailed several AR/vegan contacts in the area from the Veggies Animal Contacts list. Jerry did get taken on to some environmentalist meeting later that evening which was very well-attended and got to say a few words about himself and his case, so I think this softened the blow of the poor turnout somewhat. Tell Paul thanks if it was him who was there and may have been him who took Jerry on to the other meeting (I don't know), Suzy. It did help that he was welcomed so well. I don't think Jerry minded a poor turnout, it's just me thinking how far he has come and the effort that went into letting lots of people know. I'm just puzzled as I would have estimated at least 15 - 20 people would have attended from such a large city. Hoping London Vegans turnout is good next Wednesday.
