Guest guest
*PARTY*PARTY*PARTY* For those of you living in the New York or Philadelphia metropolitan areas: This Sunday (May 27, 2001), the American Vegan Society (AVS) will be celebrating their 41st annual convention in Malaga, New Jersey. A picnic lunch (with strawberries and vegan cream) begins at 12 noon. AVS will be hosting an enormous book and video sale in which all cookbooks, tapes, activist books, etc. will be discounted by 20%. There will also be a guest speaker. I've heard him before, and he's not bad. ;>) Who? Me! The NOTMILKMAN: Robert Cohen: 2 PM You may call for more information: 856-694-2887 DIRECTIONS (from New York city area) Take New Jersey's Garden State Parkway South to Exit 36. Take Route 40 West for approximately 40 miles into Malaga. At the traffic light, turn left onto West Boulevard. Follow that for 1/2 mile, turn right onto Dinshah Lane. You will see SUNCREST at the end of the block (behind the long white AVS office building). Today I received my copy of the premiere issue of American Vegan Magazine. The subtitle is: Ahimsa Lights the Way. Ahimsa is a Sanskrit term meaning non-killing, non-injuring, non-harming. The American Vegan Society (AVS), publisher of American Vegan Magazine, defines ahimsa in daily life as " Dynamic Harmlessness. " The American Vegan Society was founded in 1960 by Jay Dinshah. His work is now continued by Freya Dinshah. The magazine accepts no paid advertising, and the first issue contained 32 pages of interviews, articles, recipes, and vegan resources. WHAT IS A VEGAN? Freya defines vegans (pronounced VEE-guns) as those who live on products of the plant kingdom, so exclude flesh, fish, fowl, dairy products (animal milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, etc.), eggs, honey, animal gelatin, and other foods of animal origin. Veganism also excludes animal products such as leather, wool, fur and silk in clothing, upholstery, etc. Vegans usually also make the effort to avoid the less-then-obvious animal oils, secretions, etc., in many soaps, cosmetics, toiletries, household goods, and other common commodities. The magazine costs $20 per year. Please . Doing so supports a great organization.
