That's brilliant news, only 12 miles away from me!! You're in London

at the mo aren't u?? You'll have to come to the get-together in the

Summer.

I'll take u to them myself, and of course you'll have to come to

Newport, we have a nice veggie cafe here.

Ahh Cardiff, I only lived there for a year or so (and spent most of that

time away) but I really miss the place. Anyway I'm new to this list as of

a few hours ago so I don't know what has been mentioned but my experience

was that there weren't too many places...

I went back for Easter and the vegetarian cafe in the the city centre had

really changed, for the better. Now called Beaz Neez

http://www.beazneez.co.uk/ it is above a shop at the end of Wyndham Arcade

which leads from St Mary's Street into The Hayes. That it's only open

during usual Mon-Sat shopping hours is the only bad thing about it.

Then of course there is Tomlins restaurant in Penarth which you will need

to book for as it is rather small. To be honest I don't think the serving

sizes are as good as they should be for the price and you only get two

vegan choices on the menu which for someone who doesn't like garlic or

pasta (such as myself) means you get whatever is left. Still the food is

good though and they do have interesting options.

Finally there is the Greenhouse Cafe on Woodville road which is in the

heart of student area, but not too far from the city centre. I've never

been there as the vegan options are more of a lunch/snack variety and when

I've been in the area it was looking for something more fulfilling. The

Chapter Arts Centre in Canton (for many years voted as having the comfiest

cinema seats in the country) supposedly also does vegan light meals, sadly

I never got to visit as it was on the wrong side of the city for me.

Two other places to mention are Beanfreaks health food store at the top of

St Mary's Street, near the castle, they used to have a good region of

chilled and frozen vegan items from here, Europe and America although it is

not as good as it used to be. Several years ago they sold home (or at

least locally) made pies but sadly they stopped. There is of course a

range of bottled/tinned and packet goods too but nothing fresh. There is

(or was) no Holland & Barret in Cardiff. The other place to mention is

Izakaya Japanese Tavern http://www.izakaya-japanese-tavern.com/ in Cardiff

Bay, not specifically vegetarian but half the options are, or can be

adapted, and most of which are also vegan. Not expensive and very good.

I hope that's not telling you what you already knew and it's of some

use. Cardiff's a great city, not far from the valleys, and so hopefully

you should like it there.

Well, it seems I have a new job and it's in Cardiff which means I'm gonna be

moving there in September. So I may well need those recommendations some of

you guys were giving for vegan places in the area.

something more interesting in the meantime.

If they make vegan food, I'll eat it. Deal !

Hello Michael!!

Yay!! Another nu-bee. Welcome. :)

So where do you live now?? I have a vegan friend in Cardiff who's got

his own business 'Bumblebee'-http://www.bumblebeecrafts.co.uk/. Check

it out!!

You'll have to let me know next time you're visiting Cardiff, I really

fancy some choccy cake in Beaz Neez!!! :-p

My sister was kind enough to take me there last year. Although she's

an omnivore she enjoyed her veggie meal and i enjoyed my yummy vegan

option, although i had to take the choc orange dessert home in a doggy

bag!!

Thanks Michael, I'm afraid my only experience of Cardiff was the walk from

the train station to the interview so that was way cool.

>Yay!! Another nu-bee. Welcome. :)

Thank you and hello!

>So where do you live now??

I'm now in Hull (or Kingston-upon-Hull as I prefer to pedantically point

out), not a great place for vegans but not too bad. There is a great, and

cheap, vegetarian restaurant (actually an all your can eat buffet) and a

vegetarian cafe, the other cafe/restaurant sadly closed down, but that is

all really. I even have to go all the way to York to buy things like

scheese. We do have a Thai takeaway that will cater for any dietary

requirements though, so it's not all bad.

>You'll have to let me know next time you're visiting Cardiff, I really

Me too! I never got to try it when there because I ended up being too full.

Well I'm 25 and in Hull as full time a philosophy student (with just one

year to go now), having worked before hand in computing, which I return to

during vacations to fund my way. I'm not so much into the history of

philosophy but the ideas it generates. I also like travelling and finding

new places to eat, for which Brighton is the best I've seen yet. I've been

a vegan for around four years, maybe a bit more, and a vegetarian since

about 16. This list was mentioned on one I run so I thought I'd take a

look as I haven't had much luck in the past finding lists not dominated by

the US.

Hi Michael,

I'm also 25 and live in Leeds! We've got a healthshop here where you can get everything you need vegan wise. It's called Beanos and I go there all the time! They've got a good organic range too, which I really like!

How far is Leeds from Hull? Is it further away than from York? I've never been to Hull, but it's by the sea. isn't it? I moved to Leeds in September 1999 from Sweden and do like it here, but I miss the sea as I lived just by the sea in Sweden! How is Hull?

If its not too far, you could always come for a vegan shopping tour to Leeds and I can show you the healthshop!

Take care!

LOVE ~~~ Sandra

Welcome to the list, glad to see you joined up to this one too, for

some reason it is busier than the one you run, probably largely cos

of the link from Vegan Village.

I can't believe how busy this group has been in the day we organised

out in Brighton - can't even begin to catch up on half of it.

My first husband's best friend was and may still be based in Cardiff,

his name was John Quirke, but I heard from my ex that he had adopted

his mother's maiden name McCarthy, and became John McCarthy (not the

famous hostage guy!). He is a long time vegan and is either a

solicitor or a barrister, I can never remember which. He did his law

degree a few years ago there in Cardiff. Anyone here from Cardiff

know John at all?
