Thing is, if all those meat-eaters _knew_ about the cruelties then what excuse have they got to eat it?? The only reason i didn't go vegan sooner then i did was because i didn't know the 'truth'!! >I was 14 at the time, going out with an older girl of 15! How sweet!! >Lost touch now, but hope she's still vegan. You never know, maybe she's on here!! What's her name?? > Get together: Yeah - I like meeting vegans. What sort of thing are > you planning? I think a meal would be nice but it obviously would be up to what everyone wants!! What would _you_ like 2 do?? >I thought you were in Newport? yeah, I am but my sis lives in islington so i thought i could combine visiting her with the rest of you cockneys(or at least pretend cockneys) >Not enough vegan men there obviously! (Sorry - couldn't resist!) LOL!! To be honest, all the vegan guys i know are either in a relationship, gay, not my type, or have lost contact with!! > Sport: Hmm. I'm not interested in sport at all. I'm not into > competitiveness generally. Maybe something more on the spiritual side (tai-chi, yoga etc, but I'm too lazy/busy to get started). I suppose i meant something like cycling or running(eek!). What about kick-boxing or aerobics?? Even better, synchronised swimming!!! > I meant something more along the lines of promoting veganism/socio > >ethics, maybe using my IT skills to help vegan/environmental >charities etc. Silly me!! How about helping at an animal rescue centre or doing some fundraising?? > Its still under contstruction though, and needs a designer to give it a face lift! If you could wait until September, i might be able to help as part of my art+design course involves web design!! Yipeee!! > Interests: Really sad geeky ones! Such as?? >I'm also into culture jamming, contemporary design, and psy-trance >music. What's culture jamming?? > Pets: I've got ethical concerns about pets (ok flame on!). I think i know what your concerns are, domestication and all? Yeah, i agree with u here, but we have to do our best in the present situation... > But Suz, don't worry about the impression you give with your search > for a vegan man - it shows you can laugh at yourself which I think > is a sign of intelligence, and I also couldn't believe your age! You > sound so wise (and lively)! Cheers, love!! I'll get one eventually, although i may be 65 by that time!! > Anyway, hope the fast is going OK (my excuse for such a long message > is to distract you!). Did cheat earlier and had 3 energy drinks but i think i would have eaten food by now otherwise!! Thanks for the support, it's really helping!! However, my brain keeps thinking, isn't it dinner-time now, and my stomach is asking for food to the point where it's really distracting me but i'll just ignore it!! I've done fasts b4 for charideeee, i just wish i had the incentive of raising money for this one!! I found that the first few hours were the worst, you then get to the stage where you're so hungry you're not hungry!! Sas
Guest guest
Reminds me of my (now departed) grandmother. Her favourite line was " it won't hurt you, you know " while dishing out meat and me refusing. Actually I now know that it can (hurt me), but that, for me at least, is not really the point. From a logicethical (made up word!) standpoint, why do something that is unnecessary and causes pain? (and we're all living proof that it is unnecessary Good luck with your gf's mother (and congrats in having such a caring gf!). Don't know what sort of person she is (the mother), but sometimes heated argument, storming out etc actually makes the provacator feel justified. A quiet word making them question their own actions while resolutely holding your postion can sometimes shut them up. vegan-network, alwbarnes@t... wrote: > > > > > > > I had been veggie for about a year or two before (my mum wouldn't > >let me go vegan though while I lived at home, so had to > > Had an arguament with my girlfrien about this last night. > We are staying at her parents for a few days and on the phone she said to her mum (i am vegan now as well (as me) mum.) > Her response was something along the lines of 'well what about your meat?' > (yes - her use of the word 'your' got to me too) > Anyway > > I'll update you at the end of the week on how I manage not to shout at her mum and storm out of the house when she makes humour of my (if anything) kind beliefs. > > Andy > > Andrew Barnes > 07970 075905 > > -------------------- > talk21 your FREE portable and private address on the net at http://www.talk21.com

We are staying at her parents for a few days and on the phone she said to her mum (i am vegan now as well (as me) mum.) Her response was something along the lines of 'well what about your meat?' (yes - her use of the word 'your' got to me too) Anyway I'll update you at the end of the week on how I manage not to shout at her mum and storm out of the house when she makes humour of my (if anything) kind beliefs.
