Guest guest
Hi Sass! Wow, very brave of you to post that article in here - funny enough I read it last week at work. Despite the fact that most veggie/vegan dietary info on the net supports these diets, there are counter-arguments such as this one which can shake my I wonder what the writer's agenda really is. The only alleged 'problem' that couldn't be fixed by altering the diet within the boundaries of veganism appeared to be this: " Instead, entertain the possibility that your body needs some animal fat to help utilize fat-soluble vitamins and other factors not present in strict vegan diets. " Most of the other information seemed related to the very extremes (no salt, too much carrot juice etc) of the various vegan diets such as raw food, which limit the variety of your food options. I think to be a healthy vegan one should: i. eat A LOT to ensure the body receives sufficient calories ii. exercise A LOT to strengthen muscles, bones etc, lift mood and prevent obesity. iii. ensure you have a reliable source of Vit. B12, Vit. D (besides sunlight), and the Omega oils (i.e. use Flaxseed or Hemp oil). What does everybody else think about this?? C'mon people speak up, let's make sure we're all in the know about this very important aspect of our lifestyles. Guest guest
Well said Ash. Lets face it, vegan convenience food has come on a lot over the last 10 years, and loads of soya milk, marg, tofu etc is especially fortified with vitamins and minerals that we might otherwise find hard to get (and don't forget, you need the right minerals in order to absorb the right vitamins). Yes, some people do suffer trying to be vegan, but I think they're just not doing it right. I'm not a nutritionalist, but when you say " eat a lot " , I would tend to add " of a wide variety of food " , in order to increase your chances of getting the right mix of minerals, vitamins and enzymes etc. My sister, whose been veggie since about 13 and is now over 40, has tried 4 or 5 times to go vegan and always gets ill, whereas I've never had a problem in over 15 years of being vegan, and I reckon I'm " stricter " then most. I think when she tries going vegan she just eats fruit and veg, nuts and pulses etc. I think she misses out on the soya products and " special vegan " stuff because of their expense. --- Rob vegan-network, " Ashley Hooper " <ash_hooper> wrote: > Hi Sass! > > Wow, very brave of you to post that article in here - funny enough I read it last week at work.
