Guest guest
There are loads. Someone already mentioned In Search of Shrodinger's cat (this is about quantum theory - a bit old hat now!). Have a look in the " popular science " section of any good bookshop. James Gleik and maybe Feynman are some authors to look for. The superstring stuff is related to the search for a grand unified theory (the so called theory of everything), which attempts to unify the apparent incompatibility of quantum electro dynamics (which is all about really really small stuff!) and relativity (which is about really big stuff). Its all still being worked out. Feynman's books are a thought provoking read. They try to explain some of the principles that crop up again and again in physics and so are considered rather blase, but are still pretty amazing (like the uncertainty principle, constant speed of light etc). And also his quirky view on approaching these problems. I read the elegant universe after hearing a psy-trance music track called 604 (superstrings were only in their infancy whan I studied physics and were not on the syllabus) 604 is a reference to the 604 theory about the split in the early universe from 10 dimensions to the 4 we know today. The other 6 are kind of curled up and are where the strings live, and give them certain characteristics that go against conventional(?) theory. You can find loads of stuff relating physics with music and veganism at the weird and wonderful Fusion Anomaly site: http://www.fusionanomaly.net/. Anyway enough physics - no-one's answered the query on Sainsbury's chocolate cake! -- Rob vegan-network, LamourDelaVie@a... wrote: > In a message dated 5/30/01 3:54:46 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > vegan-network writes: > > << > So, just to even things up a bit, can I recommend The Elegant > Universe by Brian Greene if you really want to blow your mind.
