there used to be one called Veganomics with an excellent restaurant

attached in Lewisham. sadly demised and missed for its vegan Black Forest

Gateaux.

I used to work for Whole Earth and run their then wholefood shop for a

while. I got as far as ditching eggs and all the egg products [ even free

range ]. All I would stock was the goats/sheep milks and yoghurts as at

that time they were impossible to get anywhere else. Sure some people

were just abusing them but I accepted that some people might even need

them for health reasons. The dairies they came from were registered

organic

It was a big shock to some customers and suppliers, the baker and diary

were really angry. It was the same kind of the same anger that you get

when you challenge smokers denial. An inner rage as their ego investment

was challenged because they saw what they were doing was " superior " . To

be honest, it was a great risk as no one in small wholefood shops make

money. But worked out well financially as more hardcore shoppers came

knowing that they could trust what we were up to and supported us.

I know and have worked for or have friends that worked for or started the

big new players such as Planet Organic or Fresh and Wild. None of the

founders are even vegetarian, it is a whole new class of retailers and I

despise this sneaking in of meat and fish as OK " just because it is

organic " .

As if that means death hurts less.

Death is very inorganic.

small wholefood shops *really* need supporting or else there will be none

within a few years. Supermarkets chains let them do all the unpaid PR and

marketing for new product lines and then grab them all up and sell them

at prices wholefood shops cant even buy at. The profit margins are just

25% to 33% and cost proportionately higher.

The Kingdon of Fife or Ross and Cromarty [ Highlands ] actually but

certainly " bastard offspring " I take it as a compliment.

>I'm not saying that I believe this but it could explain why we are

>unique in not having a natural predator/rival to keep us in check

>(apart from ourselves), and also why everything humans do seems to go

>against nature.

If they offered post of Natural Predators at the job centre, I would

apply.

Nah, I re-incarnated from Tushita, " the Realm of Heaven Delights " 4

dimensions up from this one where I got kicked out - for having too many

dalliances with the dakinis I would guess - and sent down here to be

punished for a life or two. But according to my local friendly mystic

Chinese Buddhist monk I have cleared up my karma and am back off after

this life is over.

[ And you thought the plot line on Eastenders was unbelievable... who

needs television. This monk actually lived in the EastEnd too! ]

Interesting post John.

I thought Whole Earth were vegan when they first started. I didn't

even know they had their own shop.

So who is behind Planet Organic and Fresh'n'Wild? When I asked

someone who worked at F'n'W they said some Indian sounding name. I

haven't done any research on Companies House yet, but I intend to..

I wonder how much meat they actually sell. Do meat eaters really

worry so much about buying organic? I think the organic meat eaters

are actually more heartless than the non-orgnic meat eaters, since

they've obviously thought that eating organic is better for their own

bodies, and yet they don't extend the same concern to the animals'.

And if they contend that the animals have a better life being grown

organically then they're obviusly blocking the abrupt end of that

life from their conscience. At least you could say the non-organic

meat eaters are just ignorant of all the issues (and ignorance can be

cured).

The strange thing about Fresh'n'Wild is that most of the ready to eat

food they cook is, or used to be, OK for vegans, even where most

outlets would naturally use an aninal product (such as vegan

mayonnaise in the salads). I've noticed this is declining though, and

their prices going up, but it just seems strange that they would have

been so keen to cater for vegans when they're not even vegetarian.

PS Good luck with the Karma, next life thing. I found a web site on

astral projection once, that advocated veganism as the only way to

become pure enough to do it...do you need any other reason?!
