Hello!

Wonder if anyone can help...?

My company are sending me to work 3 days a week in

Altrincham....starting tomorrow. Does anyone know of any vegan (or

veg if not vegan) hotel or B & B type place in Greater Manchester /

Cheshire / anywhere not a million miles from Altrincham?

Cheers!

There is a vegetarian hotel in Knutsford, but I have to say that my

husband and I had a very upsetting experience there a few years ago.

They are very disrespectful to vegans, in fact I would say it might

perhaps be better for a vegan in the area to go to an omnivorous

place which states that they cater for vegans.

We went to the " Dick Willets " restaurant attached to the Toft hotel,

after my mother-in-law had phoned on ahead and ascertained that they

were OK with catering for vegans, but my husband got something with

traces of cheese left on it, because what they had done is they had

scraped off the cheese from something to supposedly make it vegan and

hoped we would not notice. When we complained about this obviously

stringy melted cheese on top of his aubergine with topping starter,

we were told to leave! They did not deny that they had scraped the

cheese off a lacto-veg dish (they could hardly deny it, it was very

obvious!). We were not being awkward and have never known this to

happen to us before. It was more humiliating being asked to leave

than the actual cheese, if they had apologised for the mistake and

sorted it out we would probably have been reasonably OK about it all.

Sometimes this can probably happen without the proprietor's knowledge

if there is one poorly trained member of staff who doesn't follow

instructions properly, and we thought this might have been what

happened, but this was not the case, it was the owner himself who was

anti-vegan, and considered it totally acceptable for his staff to do

this to vegans.

Unfortunately there are just a few veggie establishments which are

less respectful of vegans than some omni places.

These places are few and far between, but I thought you should be

warned about this one. A totally vegan-unfriendly place, even though

vegetarian.
