Guest guest
Wow, A vegan gothic webpage. That's brilliant. I got a rubber wrist band from the Aflecks palace in Manchester, with rubber spikes, and it looks wicked! I might be starting a vegan shoe business. These shoes are gorgeous. Really ladylike, but i have platforms as well, which are narrow and don't look like great big clompy things on your feet, great for small women. Fake leather and swead, really silky. I'm looking for some people to put them on a website to see the interest we get in them. Paula xxx
Guest guest
Hi Helen, Goth stuff eh? Here goes I... Pennangalan dreams (Goth boot people) have started making all their boots with the option of fake leather, you will need to check they are suitable for vegans though as I haven't gotten around to it yet (haven't decided what I should get). There is some doubt because they do use a bit of leather on their PVC boots but I am very optimistic. Last time I looked the materials page of their site did not mention the fake leather but it you looked at a pair of boots the drop down materials box did allow you to order it. The site is at http://www.pennangalan.co.uk/boots/ And don't forget Vegetarian Shoes in Brighton who sell Vegan DMs as well as some larger (up to 20 eyes) boots of their own. Site at http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/ As for make up I would recommend Stargazer who do a full range of colours (unlike Beauty without Cruelty's range of pink, pink, or pink) including black and blue lipsticks etc. Although they aren't in the business of being ethical like BwC, they are an ethical business and their entire product line is ethical. You can buy their stuff in a lot of goth stores, sometimes in gift stores or directly from the company. The site is at http://www.stargazer-products.com/ but there is no proper online ordering and you would be advised to request a free catalogue. Some BarryM products are also vegan, but not all and not lipstick. If I recall only the powdered eye shadow (not solid), kohl pencils and nail polish are okay. I'm certain about those, there may be more but I don't have the email to hand in which they listed everything. They have a very large range of colours and more conveniently can be bought in larger Superdrug stores. The nail polish doesn't last long before chipping though. Site at http://www.barrym.co.uk/ As for clothes, it depends what look you are going for. A lot of the 'romantic goth' (velvet/goth) clothing is cotton, and practically all corsets are steel boned rather than whale. If you want something more industrial/cyber then pretty much everything will be PVC as that is what the look is about. You do also get some leather clothing but PVC is seen as the alternative to that and so I seriously doubt you would find anything else. You might be able to order something be made up especially using fake leather but it would be very expensive. There are loads of shops online as well as the real kind, it's best really to find something you like then email or ask about it but I'm afraid if you want the industrial look then it would probably have or be PVC or nothing. A pity you aren't serious about the whips... Michael (I have been planning to put together a UK vegan goth page for just this kind of thing, so if there are any other suggestions which I can then plagiarize I too would be keen to hear. Especially if someone knows of places that do leather chokers and wrist bands that aren't leather, but aren't cheap looking plastic either.) Guest guest
For all you goths and other fans of big boots I can confirm that the synthetic Pennangalan Dreams boots are vegan. You can order their boots in either synthetic leather or synthetic patent but they do cost about £100 for a pair (whether leather or synthetic). On the plus side though you can get some of the heeled boots in mens sizes too, something which can be difficult even in the supposedly gender indifferent goth world. Guest guest
> Especially if someone knows of > places that do leather chokers and wrist bands that aren't leather, but > aren't cheap looking plastic either.) Not sure about chokers that look like leather, but there are now quite a few shops here in Glasgow that sell a good range of cruelty free dog collars/wrist bands/spiky belts. Most of the ones that don't look plastic are sparkly instead though. Flip in Glasgow is good (also infested by 8 year old Slipknot fans tho') - it's a nationwide chain so I assume the other shops will have similar stuff. Please let us know about the website URL when you get it set up! Mog
