Guest guest
Washington - US Vice President Dick Cheney said on Wednesday doubts lingered over the existence of global warming, and reaffirmed the US position that the Kyoto Protocol to reduce carbon dioxide emissions was ill-conceived. During a break at the Energy Efficiency Forum, Cheney said the Kyoto treaty did not take into account the emissions from countries including China and India, the number two and number five emitters respectively, and placed an undue burden on the United States and other industrialised nations. " Unfortunately we believe (Kyoto is) flawed, as the president has said many times, because it leaves out a significant part of the world. The burden fell basically on the United States and on a few other developed countries, " Cheney said. " We think that's an unwise way to go and an unreasonable way to go. " Cheney also said the administration of President George W Bush thought there was " still an awful lot of doubt about exactly how the whole system works. " Bush's abandonment of the US commitment to the Kyoto Protocol evoked a furore among many allies, particularly in Europe, where he is currently on his first official trip to the continent. Despite the US decision, the European Union, Japan, and other developed nations have said they would proceed with the targets laid out in the 1997 treaty, which mandates a 5.2 percent reduction in overall output of greenhouse gas by the 2008-2012 timeframe compared to 1990. " If you look at the Kyoto treaty, it hits especially the United States and would have devastating economic consequences for us, " Cheney said, pointing to initiatives to deal with climate change the president introduced on Monday in efforts to develop " an effective and science-based response " to global warming. " If you're really concerned about global warming and carbon dioxide emissions, then we need to come over here and aggressively pursue the use of nuclear power, which we can do safely and sanely, but for 20-some years now has been a big no-no politically, " Cheney insisted. " Some of the same people who yell loudest about global warming and carbon dioxide emissions are also the first ones to scream when somebody says, 'Gee, we ought to use nuclear power.' Only because doubts mean that Bush can feel better over his vested interests in oil!!!!! > Cheney said. " We think that's an unwise way to go and an unreasonable way to go. " Cheney also said the administration of President George W Bush thought there was " still an awful lot of doubt about exactly how the whole system works. " And what system is that, exactly???? They seem to be under no doubt as to how to destroy the environment!!! > " If you look at the Kyoto treaty, it hits especially the United States and would have devastating economic consequences for us, " Well, get rid of the Kyoto treaty, I say!! If destroying the environment brings jobs, then that's great!!!!!! > " If you're really concerned about global warming and carbon dioxide > emissions, then we need to come over here and aggressively pursue > the use of nuclear power, which we can do safely and sanely, but for > 20-some years now has been a big no-no politically, " Cheney > insisted. If you're really concerned about causing another Chernoybyl and giving people cancer then we need to aggressively pursue the use of nuclear power!!! At the end of the day, if people with vested interests are in power, even though multi-nationals are way more powerful than governments could ever be, we are never gonna get anywhere!! Does anybody have the number of a local hit-man i could hire?? Well, i have to go down in history somehow!! Sas xxx
