Would a vegan organisation promote non-animal tested cosmetics such as Body Shop as cruelty-free, even though many of their products are not vegan, and then not care when a vegan told them she was upset that she had believed that the Body Shop was vegan because of PeTA's endorsement, and had used non-vegan things because of PeTA's misleading definition of cruelty-free? This happened to an American vegan I met on a message board, and despite knowing they had misled her, PeTA were not prepared to learn from their mistake, and told her that they had no intention of changing their definition of cruelty-free cosmetics and toiletries to mean vegan only. Do they sound like vegans to you? They certainly may be dietary vegans, but not full ethical vegans, because they seem to think it is OK to use animal bits in cosmetics so long as they don't animal test, and still call it cruelty-free. If it aint vegan it aint cruelty-free, whatever PeTA say. I questioned them on this and they never replied! Shows how much they care doesn't it? Lots of people trust them, but I would trust the Vegan Society more. Try www.vegansociety.com Lesley
Guest guest
Uhhhmmm I wonder if Dyson have to guts to reinvent the sonic washing machine - and if the world would let them!? - jallan vegan list Thursday, September 20, 2001 11:33 PM [100% veg*n ] > so do you use conditioner? - sorry if I'm boring the pants off of everyone > discussing my washing by the way! > > Jayne no, that's fine Jayne. this has always been the kind of list where people wash their dirty sheets [ i was about to say underwear ] in public. seriously. i think that it is really worthwhile applying attention to ever details in one's life. amazing how the entire world of consumers have been lulled into the thought that that have to buy a huge box of air, whey and egg shells in order to pollute the environmental with a tiny amount of detergent when there are alternatives. what ever happened to the sonic washing machine. the ultimate vegan washday. died in a conspiracy of suppression from the weight of the power such as Proctor and Gamble that make the washing up powder. and what's the ethics rating for companies like them? john the UK vegan fest happened last weekend and was great as ever. nice to meet some old young faces. it is fascinating to just sit around and check out all the people thinking, " hmmmn ... so that is what a vegan looks like. i wonder what they eat? " best food award : Neals Yard Spicey Spinach Pie on the subject of good food. recommedations must go out for two other high end veggie/vegan eateries that i have encountered and re-encountered in London. Manna, one of the oldest veggie joints in town has been done up [ new to me anyway ] and is now less hippy and more World of Interiors. the food is great, although be prepared to lose 20 pounds to gain 5 pounds. it is not cheap but very elegant and well presented. much better selection for vegans although the bread has dropped in standards. they used to use the great " nutty " Jordan's wholemeal flower which was the best, has it gone forever? also The Gate has another branch in Belsize Park which is To to the Digest Mode [ recommended ], send an email to: vegan-network-digest
Guest guest
I have a freezer stocked with veggie stuff that I can cook in half an hour, with my attention for the last ten. Tesco's organic veggie burger, Sainsbury's nut cutlet, that kind of thing. Not sure how cheap that is . I eat a lot of lettuce & tomato sandwiches, with Tahini instead of margerine. Beans on toast, fresh fruit, more sandwiches. I used to make my own Pate when I was a student as well. Jemma wrote: > > Hiya - I'm Jemma - like Charlie I'm also fairly new to being vegan (5 weeks) though I've been vegetarian for 8 years or so. I definately feel that I've made the right decision going vegan but am struggling. I'm a student who hates cooking so if anyones got any on-a-budget-quick-meal ideas I'd love to hear about them! Hopefully get to know you all soon. > > Lots of Love > Jemma aka Tristesse > >
Guest guest
I guess the cheapest food of all is dry (durum wheat) pasta. Cheap, quick and easy to cook. I sometimes like it cold mixed with Plamil's egg free mayonnaise with salad. Baked beans on toast or in a jacket potato are always quick and cheap. Ian's suggestion of salad sandwiches is great. I find that vegan food is cheap anyway. Even if you just buy a handful of vegetables and stir fry for a couple of minutes with a little oil and soy sauce. The list of cheap and easy meals is endless. Good luck on becoming a vegan. You're right - you've definitely made the right choice! ;-) Jane (vegetarian for nine years, vegan for seven months!). - " Dr Ian McDonald " <ian.mcdonald <vegan-network > Tuesday, October 16, 2001 10:00 PM Re: [100% veg*n ] > I have a freezer stocked with veggie stuff that I can cook in half an > hour, with my attention for the last ten.
