Guest guest
I also watched the heroin documentary on Tuesday night. Before I watched it I thought the whole idea of decriminalising such a " dangerous " drug was ridiculous, but I have to say that by the end my opinion had totally changed! The heroin addicts interviewed, and the stories they told, convinced me that addiction is something that can happen to anyone. Of course it's easy to say you " wouldn't be so stupid " , and it's right to educate people about the dangers of drugs. But firstly, educate them properly - as Rowan said, the impurities and the social stigma do far more damage than pure heroin ever would. And secondly, humans are impulsive, always will be. A few years ago I thought I would never try drugs, but eventually it happened purely because I was curious. Although I have never tried anything anywhere near as " serious " as heroin, I don't think you can villify people for a moment of madness, or whatever you want to call it. (Actually I don't regret trying soft drugs, though I definitely wouldn't do it regularly). And also, speaking as an (aging) teenager, (20 next birthday, scary stuff), if you forbid kids from doing something it just becomes more attractive. It might be pathetic, but it's true. It's time the government stopped chasing votes and started addressing the real problems. Mog PS. Personally I think there is something much more sinister about ecstasy than heroin. A " happy " drug that turns you into a permanent depressive in later life? *Niiice*. And who knows what they cut that with.
