Guest guest
Hello. Having read the many, many messages over the last weeks, I thought I should actually post at least one message at some point. So here it is... In a vague attempt to introduce myself I'm 20yrs old, have been vegan for the last 4/5 months after having been veggie for the 11 years before that, and at the moment I'm having the fun of living in my meat-eating dad's house (after living in a student house I thought I was used to icky stuff in the fridge, then I moved home and re- discovered the true horror of slabs of red meat). Hmmm... bizarre intro. I'll argue that my shyness is blocking any sort of sense- making. hmmm... Oh dear. love, or what you will, Jude. I certainly admire anyone who goes veggie so young too! I was not veggie until 17, but went vegan at just under 20 about the same as you. I'm 36 now. My parents still eat meat too They are both diabetic now and a vegan diet really can be good for diabetics, but they are stubborn and set in their ways. Guest guest
I really feel for everyone who have loved ones who still enjoy eating rotton dead animals. Im really lucky that my family have always been veggies, and we're all moving to vegan in a big way. Its truly amazing that people like you lot have such a strong resolve to stick with the non-cruelty ideals. After all, I never wanted a Big Mac, as the smell always made me want to chuck vegan-network, " Lesley Dove " <100706.3632@c...> wrote: > vegan-network, " Jude Frankau " <turtlebat> wrote: > > Hello. Cheers for the responses, it makes me less nervous - my previous forays (sp?) into internet chat-ness were generally not the best. But anyway. To answer questions above: my birthday is the ninth of December, which makes me a sagitarreus (I think I fell into the 13th star sign when they discovered there was one for about a week, and then promptly decided it didn't exist again...) As for how am I finding being a vegan? Fine, mostly, apart from eating out. It wasn't a sudden transition just a final decision I suppose. I've always vaguely known there was something slightly freaky about humans eating animal products. I worked in India for three months last year and that's when I stopped eating eggs, and then worked with a vegan bloke in London (how 'gap year's can change your eating habits)and started thinking beyond " well it's not as if they kill them for their milk... " . After a few abborrtive attempts at staying vegan I finally decided at the beginning of this year to see how long I could stay vegan for, and a combination of having worked for aforesaid vegan bloke again and talking with the rest of the crew who were also vegan/AR, as well as a blockheaded realisation that foot-and-mouth culling was also of dairy cows and so some of those miserable lives were my fault, sealed the matter. Arrgggh this is so long-winded. Apologies. Basically I don't want anything to do with the farming or exploitaion of animals. As for the other questions (short answers!): tolerant mother and boarding schools which already had their fair share of veggies. My mum told me that when I was about 5yrs old I stood in the middle of our local butchers (just the right height to have the bloody slices of liver and kidney in the counter at nose level as far I remember) and proclaimed loudly " when I grow up I'm going to be a vegetarian " , and voila a few years later I refused to eat meat. Um, even shorter answers... Studying Theology, Philosophy and Social Anthropolgy at St Andrews Uni in Scotland (end of first year) and for the holidays, until I can find somewhere better, I'm at my dad's in Gloucestershire (SW England, nearish Bristol). As for veg*n friends, many of my friends are veggie, as for vegans I'm friends with a vegan family in London, and one or two at uni, but none in Glos. And no, I don't have a boyf/girlf, vegan or otherwise. Finally you probably don't ask too many ques, just my answers are too long. They'll be shorter in future, honestly. Mumble, etc. Jude. Guest guest
>Studying Theology, Philosophy and Social Anthropolgy at St > Andrews Uni in Scotland (end of first year) Hi Jude! I was at St Andrews for a year and a half before moving back to Glasgow for uni... I missed the big city! St A's is cool though, I still go back sometimes to see people. Where do you stay when you're at uni? I was in Sallies Hall all the time I was there - being vegan was a bloody nightmare! Highlights included when the chef served me up a " vegan " meal which was actually veggie pasta with (some of) the cheese scraped off the top!
