We live in a first floor flat and don't have any mice, but lots of

spiders and insects settle here quite happily.

Hi Lesley

Perhaps I misunderstood - I always thought punk was intended just to shock -

I never really thought any of the " politics " was sincere.

It was born out of a rebellion against social conditions and as such it was

driven by politics. It is because of the ignorance towards their situation

that they felt the need to shock as it was the only way they could be heard.

I wish I could remember my youth cultures course as punk was one of them

covered.

Crass to the Dead Kennedys, i mean..man...politics has been an intergral part of

the punk movement for decades.....rock against reagan, punx against war, etc

Depends whether you mean English punk or American punk - I always think of

Punk as being Sex Pistols etc.

Yeah, but remember the sort of music I like - for instance, my favourite

groups include:

Magnum - songs such as Don't Wake The Lion, Need A Lot of Love

Metallica - songs such as ...And Justice For All, Disposable Heroes,

Shortest Straw, Welcome Home

Savatage - albums such as Dead Winter Dead, Wake of Magellan

Megadeth - songs such as Foreclosure of A Dream, Rust In Peace

I could go on - these are the sort of groups that seem to have sincerity in

the politics in their songs. The point I'm making about punk is that it is

done for protest - but the importance of it is the protest, not what is

being protested against!
