Guest guest
I have already heard it from two separate sources that a vegan friend of mine with her toddler had to deal with intolerant attitudes at London Vegans Monthly Meeting this week. Seems it is OK for people to bring dogs to meetings, even though dogs can be left at home for a certain amount of time, whereas children who are being raised with vegan values and whose parents want them to be part of the vegan community are not welcomed by a few rabid and vociferous child-haters (these people are fortuntely not the majority but they are influential). What a funny old world it is. I think it is the child-haters who should stop oppressing parents, often single parents, and nearly always women. If they can't tolerate that a wide variety of lifestyles are acceptable within vegan groups, including being a family with young children, they should get the hell out of a group like London Vegans which is not a specific childfree group, and start their own specifically childfree group! Problem solved! Leave London Vegans to the families and those who are accepting of kids. Homophobia and racism would not be tolerated in LV I am pretty sure, so why are parents and small children treated as social pariahs and the offending intolerants allowed to get away with this discrimination? I am feeling as mad as hell, although I was not at the meeting myself! The speaker was from Baby Milk Action, so it would have been expected that mothers would be there with young children. My friend had as much or even more right to be there with her child than the small number of child-intolerants who made it unpleasant for her. So how dare these people behave this way? Shame on them.
