Guest guest
Andy Why? oh why is there going to be £3m spent on a memorial fountain for Princess Diana? I don't know what I would do with £3m because I know of so many deserving causes! I got this far - and totally agree. I reckon the Diana memorial is like the tabloids, the soaps, ciggies and beer - designed just to keep people happy so they don't think about the real world - after all if they start thinking, they might not like it (sarcasm!) Guest guest
I personally am thrilled about the Diana fountain. Diana did a lot of good work in her short life and brought a great deal of public awareness to so many good causes. Anyway, the royalty waste money on hunting, shooting etc, why can't some of the public money be put towards something nice. A huge majority of the British population want the fountain and so do the tourists. We can't all be *noble* and give every last penny away to charity. I might be a vegan but I don't think charities are the *b-all and end-all* of life! You have to live in the real world and stop taking your ethical views so far! Hooray for the fountain! Announced on what would have been Diana's 40th birthday. Yes Jane, but just imagine, if you were Diana, would you want £3 m spent on a memorial fountain, when it could be put to use helping one of the causes that you so passionately beleived in? Maybe it's just me taking things the wrong way, but I think Diana would be touched that people care, but pissed off at the misuse of such a large sum of money. peace anastasia

Guest guest
I don't think any of us can comment on what Diana thought and would have liked. Let's not go down that road. Guest guest
No need to take it so personally and no need to be so rude Andy. I have a perfectly good grasp of the English language thank you very much, so keep your *smart alec* views to yourself! Also, don't talk ill of the dead. - <alwbarnes <vegan-network > Saturday, June 30, 2001 4:59 PM Re: [100% veg*n ] 3 rants I am talking about priorities. Why would you, for example, spend a few pounds a week on flowers to put in a vase on your living room table, when, for example, there was no food in your fridge. Nobody would do this. However, if this is extrapolated (long word for Jane I know) to the world view, some people believe it is good? Where would you spend £3m if you were in a warzone? Who gives a damn about Diana - she did some things for others but only because she had the time. I know people who do far more than she did and have jobs! Guest guest
We already have fountains and £5 million is excessive They won't build a fountain when I go and I don't think she was any better than I {not even veggie]. I think she herself would prefer it to go towards removing landmines or helping those damaged by them Those who cared about her {difficult if you don't know her---unless you're influenced by the hype] will never forget her They don't need any kind of monument. Will you see it anyway ?Is it going to be built where you live? I bet it won't be in a deprived area. Probably in some affluent part of London for the wealthy to appreciate --- and for tourists to photograph!!! Guest guest
He has the right to say what he thinks. This is a democracy and its not his fault she's dead . Can we not criticise any one on the grounds that they are dead??? What about other members of royalty /wellknown people , who are no longer with us Angie - Jane Cuming vegan-network Saturday, June 30, 2001 4:06 PM Re: [100% veg*n ] 3 rants Also, don't talk ill of the dead. - <alwbarnes <vegan-network > Saturday, June 30, 2001 4:59 PM Re: [100% veg*n ] 3 rants To to the Digest Mode [ recommended ], send an email to: vegan-network-digest

Guest guest
Hi Jane > I give up! Peter speaks out but that's okay, Jane speaks out but that's > not. Thought you said this was a democracy! I think it might be because " don't speak ill of the dead " is a blanket rule, whereas pointing out examples where the dead should be spoken ill of (sorry about the grammar) is not. From my point of view - as an historian - it would be pretty tough not to speak ill of the dead, and is sometimes absolutely necessary - after all, what is there in history that can be discussed without doing so? Guest guest
Excellent, like outside The International Toilet (McD's) free handout style? If £3m was spent of supplying veggie burgers outside TIT, how much would " it " loose? More that £3m I suspect. Anyone fancy giving me the money to play with?
