Guest guest
I don't know if I agree that it's fortunate that American laws don't require anything more specific than " natural " or " artificial " flavourings or colourings! Those could be derived from almost anything, couldn't they?? xxk@xx Original Message ----- EBbrewpunx vegan-network Thursday, July 26, 2001 3:21 PM Re: [100% veg*n ] E631, Trufree wot in the blazes is E631??? sounds like a robot in a speilberg movie.... i take it it's some sort of artificial flavor...american labels don't need to do that, lucky us..all they have to say is " artificial flavor " or color, or natural flavor or color..and thats all we get... fraggle
Guest guest
i guess sarcasm doesn;t translate well sometimes.. it wasn't a serious " lucky us " but, you have to feel for the poor food conglomerates..can you imagine if they had to list the real ingredients of a twinkie?? the label would have to say : " see other wrapper for part 2 of contents " heck, artificial colors have like 6 -20 different things in em fer bacchus' sake eeep!! fraggle " kittyveg " <kittyveg wrote: > > > I don't know if I agree that it's fortunate that American laws don't require anything more specific than " natural " or " artificial " flavourings or colourings! Mostly the same here for flavours at least. Blah. Most colours seem to have an E number. E6xx is generally a flavour *enhancer* though - eg, 621 is Monosodium Glutamate - it was the fact it was in the same group that got me looking in the first place. Anyway, I just got a reply from the Vegan Society... ------- Forwarded Message Tue, 31 Jul 2001 12:48:07 +0100 Re: Trufree Rice & Lentil Quick Snack veganmail <info Dear Ciaran, It was thought by us that E631 was always animal derived, ie from animal muscle waste. Hovever, it has become known that it can be prepared from mushrooms. The Trufree product's E631 is from mushrooms and is therefore VEGAN. ------- End of Forwarded Message So paranoia over. ...ciaran -- OGG Vorbis, the new music format: http://www.vorbis.com/
