Guest guest
Hmm...I guess I worry that if we let the environment go to pot, it might mean curtains for us and animals too. Wouldn't it be tragic if, say, in a thousand years' time an intelligent alien parks their space vehicle on the desert that was once the Amazonian rainforest and has to make do with trying to communicate with cockroaches? By investigating and adopting more sustainable ways of living we are also helping to ensure that atleast some of the diversity around us is maintained for future generations. And when I say diversity, I mean flora AND fauna. The argument about cultural imperialism is a difficult one. If non-vegan acts were a necessary and unavoidable part of survival (as opposed to using an animal that had died naturally/by accident) then I would be hard-pushed to disagree. If it wasn't, then that's a different matter. For instance, I'm not too bothered about the impact on British culture if fox-hunting ever stopped. Anyway, that's all for now (my keyboard just screeched at me), Jane Sun, 14 Oct 2001 19:52:07 +0100 " k@ " <kittyveg RE: Leather chemicals Thanks, Ashley, for expressing succinctly my thoughts on this particular issue. Any coincidental, environmental benefits of my vegan diet are just that. My primary concern is the animals. xxk@xx ash 13 October 2001 20:18 [100% veg*n ] Leather chemicals Anyway , I'm not trying to start an argument and although I am concerned about green issues , it was basically the animal issue that was the deciding factor when I turned vegan.
