Guest guest
Graham you raise a lot of very interesting points. Hopefully more ecologically-friendly methods of producing vegan shoes and other products will eventuate, and this is only one fairly small part of a vegan's environmental footprint. I think all vegans should do their best to buy local produce, recycle and avoid using fossil fuels where possible if they care about the environment. Not every choice we make is going to produce a positive 'net environmental balance'. Consider using a computer for example. Does your use of a computer benefit the environment enough to outweigh the ecodamage caused by production of the computer and electricity to run it? Similarly motorised transport? And when we buy leather shoes are we giving revenue to unethical companies (or parent companies) whose interests may be at odds with the environment in other ways?
