Guest guest
Little Rock Arrests 26 27/10/20 5:53 am Received: 1/11/01 12:34 am Exhibit A, exhibita jerry LITTLE ROCK -- On Oct. 29, about 200 animal rights activists protested Stephen's Inc., an investment firm who saved the notorious Huntingdon Life Sciences from bankruptcy early this year. HLS has been caught on undercover video punching test beagles who don't comply with researchers, dissecting live monkeys, and other heinous abuses. It's estimated up to 500 animals die each day at this laboratory. Stephen's Inc. has since been the target of a campaign for their callous disregard of the crimes of HLS. Stephen's has enough influence in Little Rock, overly restrictive municipal codes were enacted in preparation for the protest. As a result, 26 activists were arrested for not heeding these new codes. Several were injured by use of pepper spray, rubber bullets, pain holds, and what has become normal police brutality. The 26 arrested activists are still in jail, refusing to pay bail for their illegal arrests. The judge also demanded that they pay overtime for the police presence before their release -- which assumes their guilt without a trial. Now they are on a hunger strike and they are being threatened with forced-feeding. You can help by calling the Little Rock jail: (501) 340-7000; press 1000# at the recorded greeting; and D.A. Larry Jegley (501) 371-4508. Remind Little Rock that due process applies to all people. You can visit www.welovesoy.com/shac/index.html for the latest information.
