Guest guest
>my move to vegan from vegetarian was >odd as well - i was sitting in a restaurant with my family after my 'a' >levels 4 years ago and my dad said what ice cream do you want for dessert? >and i said none, i'm a vegan. and so i'm a vegan. >that was it. >i decided between finishing my meal and contemplating dessert. that is one of the best " Damascan Road " story i have heard, on route to the ice cream tray ... great! it is really funny. the moment enlightent fell upon ... not quite in the middle of a battle field or under a banyam tree but looking at a dessert menu in the local indian takeaway. >the only thing i think i know is the vegan ethic. cos whether there is a god >or not, or whatever the nature and point of our existence - veganism remains >an absolute i think. I like absolutes and have to agree. especially as it is an abosulte that you can actually practice and makes a change rather than just philosophise about. I think it was Socheid that actually brought the subject of philosophy up a wee while ago with a friend of his putting him down about " facts only being commonly held beliefs " or something, which was of course hurtful condescension rather than honest philosophy. " Absolutes " are hard for philosophers who revel and profit in mires of subjectivity but sure they exist. it is just hard to be sure *who* actually realises them. and hard for those who do but dont follow to admit. On a horticultural note, Graham, what do you make of comfrey? i planted a little organic seedling who is rapidly becoming a bush - but mostly slug food. and i am not friend to slug either. it kind of looks much like the stuff that lines the nearby canal bank. i know that you can make tea out of it, the leaves I take it. but is it right that it is good just for compositing or something? arable john
