oh boi

ummm..

personally...it all depends....

i have companion animals...which certain folks on this list deplore..but, i

love them as much as the folks on this list love their children...

horse riding can be cruel, demeaning and assorted other nasty things..

but, horses , as far as i've seen, can enjoy the company of humans, as well

as their own kind....

now, spurs..ugh!

registered in my head that as a vegan, I should not ride horses... Just

wanted to hear from all of you, what do you think? I love working with

non-humans, but then again, to love them means not to exploit them...and I

guess it would be fair to say that horse riding DOES exploit horses...

Welcoming all opinions, including those that would harshly ask me, " And you

call yourself vegan???!!! "

Thanks!

Owned a horse (irrelevant reason) for a period in which she lived in a boring

square field, and on the common land also which had trees, ponds and 40 others.

I didn't ride her then - she had 'enough' space where before, I did, on the

basis that the field was so boring.

I wouldn't want a horse to be ridden so if you can don't get into the industry

'at all' , but I haven't any problem with 'enough' land being used to play with

horses which could involve riding them bare back as that gives the horse the

choice to play with you or not.

I don't really know that much about horses.

I do know that both William Shatner and the TV vet, Wendy (?) Turner,

ride horses, and they are popularly described as vegan.

The definition on the vegan website only talks about animal *products*.

Riding is a service, not a product :).

Really, it's down to how much pressure the horse is under. Is the

relationship closer to pet and owner, or horse and jockey? But I don't

really know that much about horses :).

i'd have to agree....it depends on the pressure the horse is under....

if there's no pressure to strive and win....and it's just as a fun

thing...then i think it's ok....
