Guest guest
Oh no! I can't beleive the 13th note is maybe going to close! It has been a favourote meeting place of mine [and my non-vegan friends!] for years. Where else can you get scrummy vegan food like that in Glasgow! I'm going to be in Glasgow for a while and I was hoping to meet up with some other vegans on this list who frequently visit the Note. If it were to close where else would you meet up? Guest guest
As far as I know they are still " open " , but don't know for how long. I'm in Glasgow on Sunday - I'll check it out. But you're right, there's no other vegan (or veggie) place with quite the same atmosphere, anywhere. The guy behind it all, Craig Tannock, is trying to raise funds for a similar venture in the future - the exsting 13th note will probably be taken over, either by a pub chain or individuals, but obviously the chances of them having the same core values is remote, to say the least. vegan-network, " Dee Matheson " <dmatheson72@h...> wrote: > Oh no! Guest guest
Bad news about the note.... I normally go there all the time but haven't been recently (end of term uni work and so on). I think it's still open just now though. Everyone I've told about it (vegans and non-vegans) have been really shocked, but maybe there's still some hope to save it... a benefit show or something like that. As for where else vegans could meet in Glasgow... Glasgow vegan network will probably start having meetings somewhere like T'Chai (teahouse in the west end), or there's the Bay Tree and Grassroots cafe still open. It's really weird because there is nothing on the Glasgow Vegan discussion group about this at all... it seems really sudden. If the 13th note does go it will be a huge loss for vegans and music lovers in Glasgow - but I don't think we should give up yet! If it were to close where > else would you meet up? haven't planned to meet anywhere else yet, since the Note is still open and for now still serving vegan food. I'd like to keep supporting it while that's the case ... and the Help 13 effort to support the staff and found something new. Gigs are booked thru to the 28th of Jan, but I guess for most of us it would be the day that they stop serving vegan food that would be real closure - I'd hate some beancounter (how apt) to work out that they could squeeze more cash out of the cafe by serving up coo-pus or bird muscle. if worst happens and it does close, it leaves us just Grassroots and the Bay Tree as veggie eating places (neither are vegan, although most of the food in both is). Neither of those places has that lingering, lounging about character of the Note - i think Tchai Ovna (http://www.tchaiovna.com) would be the next best thing; it's been a favourite little place of my for past year or so, and although in west end, isn't far from tube station and bus routes if you want to meet up, suggest you sign onto the gvn group on (gvn) where it (and other things) gets planned. We also had a - very filling & fun - xmas party last night, and more things like that semi-planned. btw, there are tickets selling now for the Hogmanay night at the 13th Note - £10 for the club til 4am, or £5 for the cafe til 1am. jey glasgow
Guest guest
as salaamu alaykum The 13th note is a great place, but the people who work in it are hardly the friendliest bunch around vegan-network, " manga_mog " <manga_mog@h...> wrote: > Bad news about the note.... It's not everyone's scene, since it's as much (if not more) a musicians pub as a vegans (the local vegan contact won't go there since the music is too loud for her.) having said that since it's the only vegan cafe in scotland, it would be rather difficult to find a friendlier one ;-) jey
