not all of these are not vegan

(did that make sense)

some, most in some cases, of these products are made by companies that test on

animals, or have animal ingredients in their production, but, there are

alternatives and some manufacturers that do not use animals

as for what is available in hong kong, your guess is as good as mine...

*shrugs*

are you willing to order thru the mail??

That's another reason why we need a HK vegan shopping guide! Really need to

work on that...and what websites (apart from PETA, coz I've already checked

it out) have a very complete (or as close to complete as possible) list of

animal ingredients and alternatives?

www.vegansociety.com is good, but I don't think it spells out the

alternatives. Its vegan shopper is very UK based.

On the bright side, Honor probably has better access to Soya products

than us. I think. Honor, did you grow up drinking soya milk?

Oh yeah, I think I know Lush...I believe I have seen it (and even purchased

something from it) before when I was still in Singapore. But I don't think

that Singapore outlet ships, and Hong Kong is not listed as one of the

places the UK store would ship their products to. But I'll probably just

fly into Singapore to load up on their products! ;) By the way, does the

Body Shop guarantee that it uses no animal ingredients? I have looked at

its website, but all it goes on about is its stance against animal

testing...and I'm just as puzzled about Aveda...

Comments on these two companies anyone (they happen to be the closest I can

get to animal-friendly cosmetics here in HK)?

Thanks!

You're right, we Chinese are big on soya products (actually, there really

isn't anything that Chinese aren't big on when it comes to 'food'...). And

I did grow up drinking a lot of soy milk, and we do get many kinds of tofu

to choose from but that's just as far as it goes when it comes to being

vegan here! (When I go into a restaurant and say I'm vegan (or vegetarian,

but I do not take dairy products nor eggs), they gladly serve some veggie

dish. But once I take the first bite and taste that something is wrong,

they also gladly say, " Yes, we first cook that in chicken broth. " or " We

fried the vegetables in shrimp paste. " What can we do with these

people????!!!!)

Unfortunately, neither Aveda nor the Body Shop can guarantee that they don't

use animal products. The Body Shop's animal testing policy is full of

loopholes, as well, which means that if it's been five years since any of

the ingredients was tested, they'll use that ingredient. It sucks. The

Body Shop's fair trade policy is admirable, but other than that, they're

shite.

I'll see what I can find regarding other truly cruelty-free lines which

would be available in HK.

I completely agree. It does 'trick' a lot of consumers who actually wish to

purchase animal-friendly products (myself included!).

Please! Thank you sooooo much!!!
